6 is too low, MK series is by far (to me) the most entertaining Ninty franchise, especially multiplayer.
It has an average score of around 7.5 here in Norway, a little lower than I expected but still better than a measly 6!

People, just stop saying the game looks like Double Dash, it's much better in motion. It's like saying Metroid Prime 3 looked excactly like 2!
The extended and smart use of bloom lighting, blur and others, make Mario Kart Wii look much better than its predecessor...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this opinion seems to have merit. The crux of their grievance with the title is that Nintendo made too many compromises in the area of how the game plays to accommodate online play and the wheel peripheral. They seem to be valid concerns about the game being dumbed down.
These are legitimate concerns for the purists. Good power sliding, and tight tracks are integral to the experience. The same way that the piss poor artificial intelligence has always been a conspicuous stain on the series. I gather from the article that the single player and party experience has been tarnished by poor power sliding mechanics, and obscenely wide tracks. Further more Nintendo is still ignoring the fact that they need to upgrade the games artificial intelligence. The real fans have been pissed by this for over a decade now. There just isn't an excuse for that.
On the other hand it appears that if your looking for a great online experience only this game probably isn't to shabby. I am curious if anyone who has played the game can tell me this. Do you think the width of the tracks makes the game too easy, or would you actually prefer tighter tracks. I would think tighter ones would be far more entertaining.
I don't know if I would consider 6/10 from Edge "poor."
Go check out some of the other games they gave 6/10 to.
I think for Edge, isn't 5/10 about average?
Still, I doubt MK:Wii is the most revolutionary or innovative game out there.
But if its a good game of Mario Kart, I'm all about it, even if I don't play it all the time. I tend to end up playing the single player Kart, and then shelving it for a while.
This review has no impact on my buying this game, and I'm still pumped about casually playing this with the Wii Wheel to see what that's all about. Looks good.
8.2 gamerankings score with the 6 averaged in. I'm guessing this game is about an 8.5/10, overall.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.
...and for the record, I won't be making a topic for every excitedly positive review this game has gotten, cause I'd be banned for spamming before I got halfway through.

The game looks good, screenshots don't do the game justice. The graphics are vastly improved over Double Dash. The retro tracks like Sorbet Land (the N64 course Frappy Snowland was in the DS version) are done like that on purpose. @Onna76 Frustrating in regards to what exactly? GP mode? People disconnecting online? Something else? |
In attacking and finishing off your components. The worst frustration I had was... close to the finish and "bam" another darn blue shield which drew away me from winning *grrr*.
