The current record holder is Halo 3 with 300 million in one week but GTA4 has the benefit of being a multiplatform release. The beast is unstoppable:

Several industry analysts also told Daily Variety that they fully expect "GTA IV" to come close to and possibly exceed $400 million in sales out of the gate.

Didn't Halo 3 have to sell a lot of special editions to get that much revenue? It looks like most people are pre-ordering standard editions of GTA4 OTOH. So GTA4 would have to sell a lot more to make up the difference.

I say 1.3 to 1.5mil 360 to 800k to 1mil MAX in America. That leaves 4.5mil for europe to make up... this isn't happening. $240mil max i say

Sources close to publisher Take-Two Interactive, whose Rockstar Games label is developing and releasing the title, said that the latest installment of the hit franchise will reach that figure and sell some 6 million units after it launches worldwide on April 29.


Microsoft currently holds the record for the biggest videogame launch with "Halo 3," which grossed $300 million in its first week and sold about 5 million units.

Its possible, but can it do it. There were a lot more PS2's, xboxes when the previous games were released.

If Take Two wants to sell 6 million unitts of GTA4 in the first week I think its possible, but that would mean selling to 20% of Xbox and PS3 base in the first week.
