Technically it should only be strike 3 after ME3's ending and ME:A in its entirety. But the latter game was such a trainwreck that it might be worth a couple of extra strikes all on its own.

The studio have clearly lost talent at this point. Its clear now, a brain drain took place at BW years ago. There is no way they still have some of the best western RPG makers still employed at the studio.

The trouble may be that if that talent is there they are now making games like Anthem rather than the rpgs that was their bread and butter and the ones that they made are impacted by  EA  and that doesn't just mean overt influence, just the change of structures going from independent to being part of a large overarching organization  is enough to leave a marked impact , such as the talent that have left no longer  being replaced by people coming up who have spent years  immersed in the Bioware rpg tradition.

What irritates me the most is that a couple of reviews have suggested there is the beginnings of a solid single player experience in there that got hijacked by a games as a service game. Like Bioware actually might have delivered what they normally deliver - a high quality single player experience.

Even their latest outing (ME:A) was far better than gamers gave it credit for, which was still a higher score than Anthem is going to wind up with.

But the real risk now is that rather than recognising their misstep and allowing Bioware back to their roots as a profitable-but-not-money-printing single player experience builder, EA will simply declare they underperformed and shut teams/the studio.

I feel that there are many of us who are wholeheartedly agree with you and what you mentioned is a real concern, the point you made about MEA is even more poignant considering it was passed down the line so they could make Anthem.

The written reviews, or at least few of them, do not match their scores in the slightest. These outlets should be dropping 5's around rather than 7's. Has it really come to this that a mediocre game is now a 7 from single reviewers? I get that an aggragate score is weighted but when you do a single review for a game you are literally trashing and give it a 7, your score looses meaning. If they all scored properly perhaps MC and OC reviews of 80 or less would not be looked upon with suspicion and 60-70's as bad games. If call the game less than mediocre with technical issues abound then score it as such with a 5 or less.

70s... FFS.

Reviewers tend to only review games that have at least a chance of getting a decent review score. Games that would have scored 1 or 3 often aren't reviewed at all, because they are obviously bad from a glance. Reviewers should just randomly pick a truly horrible game three times a year. Then they should berate the completely broken, non-functional, asset flip travesty. Why? Just to show people what a truly bad 3/10 game looks like.

EA needs to understand that not every game was meant to fit into the latest industry trend and not every studio is meant to make games that fit the latest industry trend. And they need to understand that this is a perfectly okay thing, and that such studios should continue to develop such games that they do best whether it's the latest trend or not. Not everything needs multiplayer, not everything needs to be open world, not everything needs to be GaaS. Not every game needs a battle royale mode. Etc. Just let the developers make the games they want to make and don't get in their way. But we all knew Bioware couldn't last forever. EA never learns, and their toxic culture affects the games of every developer it gets its filthy claws on, and then it discards them when it's milked them for what it thinks they're worth. Bioware is sadly likely not long for this world. And the saddest thing is, this game is going to sell just fine by most people's standards, but inevitably it will "disappoint" investors even if it sells millions as a brand new IP. Releasing in this state means it won't get the momentum it needs to make EA's targets for it and people will move on to the next GaaS. And EA will blame Bioware.

Forget about Anthem, all buy Dirt Rally 2 so it's more likely it will get VR added! Currently 85 meta.

Between this and Fallout 76, I am fully convince that any single player focus developer that attempts to make a multiplayer only game is gonna fuck it up.
