What does it mean to be the biggest jump of all generations? Because given the exponential growth when it comes to processor transistors over time, each new generation pretty much outperforms all previous generations combined. With that, the PS3 -> PS4 was the "biggest jump of all time".

I hope the PS5 really pushes boundaries. It's freaking exciting as hell when new hardware comes out, and I don't want to diminish that fantasy, but I do like being educated when it comes to this stuff.

The generational leap in CPU power will be massive, really massive; I'm expecting 8-10X, according to the different scenarios; and this will be the biggest advantage of Next Gen.

CPU boost from PS3 to PS4 was modest, so I'm expecting much more improvements in the AI, physics, system collision, interactions with the environment, animations, Gameplay, etc.

I was playing FarCry5 yesterday on PS4, and though it looks sweet, and play cool, you notice immediately the big limitations on the CPU side and the lack of more sofisticated environment interaction : you can go through vegetation and small trees like it was fresh air :D  the simulation is non-existent in some cases, and from what I remember, it's a step back compared to FarCry4; in order to increase a bit the level of details and overall graphics and other things, Devs had to tune down part of the system collision(give me a break if I'm wrong, but this is what I noticed).

So, I'm very excited about the fact the CPU in the Next Gen will be much more powerful; I do care about better graphics, and we will have of course, but I'm looking for the Next Gen Factor, and the clear sign that Next Gen has arrived.

I'd say PS360 compared to PS2 and OG XBox were even bigger improvements when it comes to CPUs....and GPUs, while we're at it. PS5 to PS4 will not be that much of a jump.

But I do expect for some interesting forays into different ways of making games - something like Atomontage voxel engine or Voxel Farm engine are good examples of what even small teams can do with voxels, and Sony's own Dreams is fine example of doing things differently.

There was a boost??? <.<

The Cell in the PS3 has 1 PPE + 8 SPEs, which combined, from what I know,  has a higher peak theoretical FLOP capability than the "8 Jaguar cores" on PS4; but consider that the SPEs of PS3 Cell were used to help a much less sofisticated RSX, the "GPU". The PPE was really underwhelming at general purpose code, it was just very weak, typical code would spend several cycles per instruction on average. It had really serious problems with weak branch prediction + huge mispredict penalty, high taken predicted branch penalty, big load-hit-store penalty, large L2 hit and especially miss latency, etc.(this is from a tech discussion). The SPEs weren't really useful for general purpose code at all since they were stuck running with 256KB RAMs, most of the code that was executed on them was well suited to GPUs. Which is a big reason why PS3 games weren't really much ahead of XBox 360 games, those SPEs were often making up for the weak GPU and doing things that XBox 360's GPU could manage directly. So much of the sort of code people ran on the Cell SPEs would be ran on the GPU instead on PS4. For the remaining stuff the Jaguar CPU is a good improvement.

XBox 360 was a monster, considering it was released in Nov 2005; the combo CPU/GPU was mind-blowing, like an High End PC, night and day compared to PS2-GC-XBox. The CPU of 360 was better than anything available on PC in 2005 I think, and the GPU like a High End PC GPU.  This monster Hardware was released only 4 years after the original XBox, it was another ERA.   If you refer to the Combo CPU/GPU, we will never have a similar generational jump; but if we only refer to the CPU, the jump will be massive from PS4 to PS5, really massive.    On the GPU side, we will have a big step forward, but not nearly as close as XBox--->360, that one was insane.

An overclocked Athlon 64 x2 4800+ would likely give than IBM Power PC a good run for it's money... Was all over when Core came out.

The big limitation with the Xbox 360's CPU is that it is an in-order design, much like an Intel Atom, the high thread count does help it out somewhat though.

The GPU is where the Xbox 360 was truly at, Microsoft made all the right choices there and it paid off in spades.

Yep, The 360 CPU has the raw power of about a 2GHz Core 2 Duo or Athlon 64 X2 @ 2.4GHz, not bad for 2005; I didn't remember correctly on the CPU side.  It was a beast anyway, I couldn't believe when it came out in 2005, what a hardware package into a Console.

PS5 Will Use Deep Learning to Adapt to the Players, Patent Reveals

""A new patent discovered by YouTuber hints that PS5 will use deep learning to adapt to the player by learning from their playstyle, what they play and how they play. The patent was filed back in October 2018.

It’s going to be a welcomed game-changer by the developers and players both. It allows PS5 to deliver customized game User Interface to the players. Different elements on your PlayStation 5’s UI will adapt to your choices and taste over time.

Here’s what the patent’s abstract says:
Generally, a video game and video game assistance are adapted to a player. For example, a narrative of the video game is personalized to an experience level of the player. Similarly, assistance in interacting with a particular context of the video game is also personalized. The personalization learns from historical interactions of players with the video game and, optionally, other video games. In an example, a deep learning neural network is implemented to generate knowledge from the historical interactions. The personalization is set according to the knowledge.

Video games will change their difficulties depending on your playstyle and skill level. You will not end up getting stuck inside a mission for hours anymore. In another example, the system will recognize you as a skilled player and will skip all of the tutorials so you jump straight into the main game. You can check out the main purpose of this patent below.

-[/b[ Offers customized game UI to the players
-[/b[ Reading, analyzing and changing experience depending on the playstyle or skills of the player
-[/b[ Evolution of gameplay experience based on an individual basis.""

A simpler use and much welcome would be the AI to see your saves and trophies to give you tidbits of information explaining better the situation so you are less confused when starting a game in the middle of a franchise or resuming it after couple of years.

The PS4 came out in Nov 2013 so it will be 7 years if PS5 releases on Nov 2020.

That is a good life span.

PS5 might be more powerful than we expected, Jason Schreier have commented on resetera forum about next-gen, he says both Microsoft and Sony is aiming higher than google Stadia which has 10,7 TF. This indicates that Navi is not limited by 64CU and PS5 should be closer to 12TF and not 9TF as previously thought.

Brad Sams has also commented that Anaconda will be close to PS5 spec wise, based on this and that French leak I don't think Microsoft is making a premium next-gen console but a low budget 1080p disc-less console for $250-300 and a mainstream console with disc for $400.
