I'd say PS360 compared to PS2 and OG XBox were even bigger improvements when it comes to CPUs....and GPUs, while we're at it. PS5 to PS4 will not be that much of a jump. But I do expect for some interesting forays into different ways of making games - something like Atomontage voxel engine or Voxel Farm engine are good examples of what even small teams can do with voxels, and Sony's own Dreams is fine example of doing things differently. |
XBox 360 was a monster, considering it was released in Nov 2005; the combo CPU/GPU was mind-blowing, like an High End PC, night and day compared to PS2-GC-XBox. The CPU of 360 was better than anything available on PC in 2005 I think, and the GPU like a High End PC GPU. This monster Hardware was released only 4 years after the original XBox, it was another ERA. If you refer to the Combo CPU/GPU, we will never have a similar generational jump; but if we only refer to the CPU, the jump will be massive from PS4 to PS5, really massive. On the GPU side, we will have a big step forward, but not nearly as close as XBox--->360, that one was insane.
