I went in early 2014 when I was single. I went with an ex stripper. All I could think was "This is all well and good but I'm not paying money for a girl I'm never going to see again." And I was way more interested in the girl I with.
But you're right. When I was younger, about 21 years old and still a virgin, and I didn't even own a porno (this was 1998 and the internet wasn't even a thing for me), it was the greatest place on earth!

I hear ya, your examples are of a different mindset.
However, I will always say if you're there solely to get your rocks off I'm not sure if its a great place for that. I mean you aren't gonna fuck the ladies so you might just feels teased out of your money in the end.
But if you're just there to hang with friends and enjoying the show, maybe get a lap dance if you somebody intrigues you, its a better experience if you're going in with that attitude. It sounds like your 2014 experience was just hanging, I've gone with a girl and strippers will hone in on them. Its almost like you become invisible.
