I still remember back in 2017/18 certain people insisting that the Switch version wouldn't be a port of the PS4 version cos the Switch "can't handle it".
Something like "only 1080p/60fps PS4 games can be ported to Switch".

To be fair, I saw a lot of people saying the opposite. Many people kept shitting on Square's support of the Switch because "Dragon Quest XI should have been one of the first games on it, it was the first to be announced!" And whenever Square put out a press release about how hard it was to develop the version, or that they weren't far enough to show it up, they were heavily criticized.
This really does look like a port that took quite a bit of time and resources and it probably shouldn't be expected to be the standard of most ports, even ones from top level studios.

If you did like the game a lot, the Switch version is getting new scenarios and extra content that other versions don't. I have it on PC and will likely double dip for the extra content. |
Doubledipping on Switch games really hurt my wallet in 2017 and 2018 though. I wound up paying $95 a month in games during those years, and that's with a nearly 30% discount on all the games I buy.
Looks like it's coming along well, Dragon Quest just isn't really my thing so I'll be holding off on it. Glad to see it come for fans of the series though

Yeah, I hear you on that. Gaming ain't cheap so definitely pay your bills, eat, etc. first. I'm becoming more frugal by the year since Best Buy Gamer's Club and Amazon Prime discounts went kaput.

Honestly I think it was just announced way too early. It's natural for people to get annoyed when you announce a game then don't show it for years. IMO, a game should never be announced unless you have gameplay footage of it to show, and if it's 2 years or less away from release. But that's just me.
While its too soon to say for sure it does seem like a commendably well done port. That's the way it should be though, developers should always endeavor to create high quality products.

Yeah I agree lol. I thought I remember it being an "accident", it still happened when the Switch was codename NX. Don't know how they accidentally did that, must have not edited their presentation.
It would certainly be nice. When I say "expect" I mean in terms of believing something will realistically happen, not that consumers shouldn't want better ports, obviously expecting better is something consumers should always do. At the very least if it's a huge success maybe we'll get bigger Japanese AAA support.

I remember watching the stream of the DQXI announcement and I think they made the NX announcement like a footnote as if they said "Yea, we're thinking of developing the game for the upcoming NX."
For what it is, I think DQXIS looks pretty good. Yea, it may not be as graphically clean compared to PS4, but it was not expected to be, as the Switch and PS4 have obvious power differences. Hopefully, the performance stays consistent for the game being on a hybrid-type console.

I thought what happened was that they had like a black slide with the platforms they were developing on the bottom of the slide, it showed an NX logo, and the developers read what platforms they were developing for. Then they later said it was an accident or something and they had nothing further to announce. It's been so long I don't remember though haha.
Yeah it's hard to tell with the video compression. Personally I hope that this isn't a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 situation, where the assets are decently detailed but the resolution is bad at launch. A clear image is very important to me, but I'm guessing most of it is just the compression (obviously there will be some downgrading for a mobile platform).
