Forums - Nintendo - Sneak Peak - Dragon Quest XI S(witch) version

If you look at how the guys hat moves from 0:13-0:24, it looks very bizarre. Like entire chunks of frames are missing, and then the image morphs into place to catch up.

I assume this just comes from how this footage was captured, and not how it will look in game.
Looks like some kind of streaming delay.

Also, shoutouts to Martina still being named Martina, and not Jade.

Her name will be jade in the English release though

Looks like...Dragon Quest XI. Obviously there seems to be less saturated colors, frame issues could be attributed to video streaming, there's some weird blooming going on in The Strand but overall it looks like a competent port for what the Switch is.

The last syllable in all Japanese phrases apparently has to be a gasp.

Anyway, I was hoping for the 2D experience. I am not a huge fan of the Toriyama art style in full 3D; but more importantly, Dragon Quest 8 was extremely slow moving and is to this day the only game in the franchise I couldn't get myself finish. I LOVE the franchise though, but would prefer to see ports of the older games, especially 4, 5, and 9 (with all the cool multiplayer features in).

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I played through on the 3DS near on 2 years ago now and loved it, I'll be preordering as soon as I can. Can't wait for this, looks beautiful compared to the 3DS (of course)

I would love a port of 5 though.

All things considered, (work in progress, not a great quality capture, port of a game that ran at 900p/30fps on PS4) it seems to be turning out quite decently. UE4 has produced some commendable results on Switch before, very interested to see how this and the Switch version of Mortal Kombat XI end up on a technical level.

Here's more footage of the game in action, it really is shaping up quite nice.

DQ, the only game where framerate and resolution are irrelevant.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I can see it hitting 720p docked and 576p in portable mode.

Snake Pass, another cross-platform UE4 game, is 864p on PS4 and 675p (docked) on Switch, and UE4 has improved a lot since then.

I already bought it when it was on sale for $30, on PS4. Switch getting it is still welcome though.

If you did like the game a lot, the Switch version is getting new scenarios and extra content that other versions don't. I have it on PC and will likely double dip for the extra content.
