Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Hardware 29 December 2018

Very impressive year for Sony and Nintendo as I thought PS4 would shrink to 16 million and Switch would only be 15-16 million. 2019 should definitely see PS4 shrink by a few more million after the minus almost 3 million it posted YoY for 2018. Switch I think 20 million is pretty much guaranteed for 2019.

Amazing December for Switch.

Xbox and 3DS still slowly chugging along though both are getting towards their final days.

Yes final weeks numbers are in! Not bad at all! Switch holding VERY string! And I am looking forward to seeing what it will do in 2019! PS4 yes won't stop wow....that thing is just selling like crazy! XB1...meh could be better but around 50 million LT is not bad by any means. It was a good year and this year will be great as well for all us gamers!

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

PSN: StlUzumaki23

switch will drop off next few weeks. ps4 best console in 2018

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

With a slow first 3 quarters of 2018, no price drops, and a year littered with Wii U ports, for Switch to be only estimated 700k behind PS4 WW...that's insane. 2019 should be Nintendo's breakout year for Switch.

Does next week count as 2018 or 2019?

It's week 1 of 2019 since 5 of those days fall in the tracking period I think.

So Switch, according to VGC went from 13'1M in 2017 to 17M in 2018, a 30% growth YOY. We know JP is 6%, USA is 14%, UK is 20% and France is 24%. So making maths compared to 2017...

13175k (worldwide) - 3324k (Japan) - 4880k (USA) - 736k (UK) - 911k (France) = 3324k in the rest of the world; so US+JP+UK+FR = 9851k

in 2018:

US 5585k + JP 3549k + UK 830k + France 1091k = 11055k, a 12% growth YOY compared to 2017.

16963k (total worldwide) - 11055k = 5908k in the rest of the world, a 77% growth YOY compared to 2017.

I really think that growth in those markets, outside JP, US, UK and FR is just too much. VGC shows a 40% growth just in Europe when UK+FR+GE seems to be around 20-25%. Those countries represented 65% of total Europe sales in 2017, now they only represent 54%. I expect some adjusting coming from Switch in the future...

There I'd actually a high probability that the numbers are spot on to be fair. The numbers we had on vgchartz when Nintendo released its last FY report were pretty much spot on and there have never been any major adjustment regarding Nintendo either. We'll find out in a week either way though.

Yup.

But i have to say, that the holiday season is way more difficult to track, even more for Nintendo consoles, and the more i see it, the more i doubt those global numbers are possible. European numbers are the most doubtful for me. I could be wrong of course, but i really need to see it from my own eyes if they are true, so we'll wait for Q3 numbers, although those will be shipments, and we won't know until Q4 if there was overshipment or not.

OH OH OH. There was some nasty adjustement up for the switch for Dec month, when we go back to the previous charts. My prediction goes up !
Every damn values in the 2 columns has been re-checked with the latest adjustments.

So the Switch actually managed to sell more than 1 million per week every week ok december. That's huge.

I take it it was briefly at a million+ and quickly adjusted down.
