What about GTA 6? I think that either it or TLOU 2 has the best chance. But in my opinion only if it has much better story than GTA V and similar driving physics as GTA IV. In GTA V they sucked when you crashed.

I didnt include GTA VI because its more than likely not even going to release this generation.

I don't know if there'll be many games this gen that will surpass Red Dead Redemption 2's score, but these games have a chance-

  • Death Standing,
  • GTA 6,
  • Elder Scrolls 6,
  • Cyberpunk 2077,
  • Last of Us Part 2,
  • Mario Odyssey 2,
  • New Zelda (BOTW Engine. I predict it will be time-based similar to Majora's Mask and will have more towns & NPCs than BOTW),
  • Metroid Prime 4,
  • Bayonetta 3,
  • New Pokemon (If the next one is what we all imagine: Fully 3D game with a BOTW type of engine with a day/night/weather system that effect what Pokemon come out and how weather effect change the battles),
  • Star Citizen (If it's what we imagine),
  • New Indie game Surprises.


I have (or have/had in the household): ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Gameboy, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Windows 95, Gameboy Colour, Windows 98, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Windows XP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Windows Vista, iPhone, Windows 7, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Windows 10, PSVR, Switch, PS5 & PSVR2. :D

The OP clearly said "on Metacritic", where RDR2 XOne is the highest rated current generation game. 

Not sure the point of the thread is to talk about "Yeah but on another website...". And let's not talk about user reviews, we all know it's worthless trash.

Well two things..
1st - Why does RDR2 hold the Meta record to you this gen when 2 Nintendo Games came out previous to it that hold the same score? If anything Zelda BOTW was the first this gen to achieve a 97 meta so that's the game to beat not RDR2 which only matched the record.
2nd - I cannot see any game this gen surpassing a 97 meta, maybe come close to matching it but not getting a 98. Too many troll reviews out there that will guarantee it wont happy. (I might be wrong) but I highly doubt it.
