I remember when someone on this site said "It will do amazing regardless" and "we aren't the customers for this device". Looks like Customers for this device are in another castle.

Playing the bias card only makes sense when the complaints are coming from people who wouldn't buy the product regardless of what it is. But the criticism toward this product very visibly included a lot of PlayStation fans.

As someone who considers himself playstation fan, and was critical of it. I am glad it did poorly, but I really disliked the notion, that I was never the customer for this device to begin with.

I wanted one, until i saw the game list.

While I love Sony and I've purchased every console they've ever made at least once (sometimes multiple times for myself and as gifts), I love taking every rare opportunity to make fun of their missteps, I'm not going to do that this time.
The PS1 classic never really stood a chance. Unlike 2D consoles, early 3D gaming had aged horrifically. No matter what games were in the library, you'd have a collection of games that were potentially incredible and innovative at the time but are vomit inducing by today's standards. Plus, while there is a but of 90s nostalgia, a lot of people just don't feel the same connection to PS1 games as they do to games from the 8-Bit and 16-Bit era. There was just increasingly more and more distractions at that time. Video games were just part of people's childhood and not the focus.

So why even make a PS1 classic?

Looking at all of the money Nintendo was raking in, it looks like a "no brainer" on paper. Could it have been executed better? Most definitely. You just don't have a lot of people willing to fork out money to play offline games with polygons so low, you can count them. Not when even below mediocre games today absolutely trounce some of the best games from that era.

For the record, I have absolutely no desire for an N64 Classic Mini, either. My fingers ache just thinking about it.

Would be hard to see people defending the product =p

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

I mean, the second the game list was released I was off board, but it just snowballed from there. Hopefully Sony listens and actually gives a shit with a revision. With Dualshocks, and you know...good games that are definitive of the PS1 library.

Some of the PS1 games I wouldn't mind playing again. However, there are better emulators out there.

Pretty much. It was handled awfully and seemed rushed. For something I figured was a sure fire thing, they sure botched it quite a bit.

Can you elaborate on that? Don't just say it's inaccurate and then change topics. I want to know why it's inaccurate.

Yes it was already posted, uses doctored footage and false equivalency(SNES classic is using newer version of pcsx). We know with some tweaking and updates the pa classic will operate better

It had its own thread. Dark1x (Digital Foundry) came into the thread and said that footage is not accurate.

Except as pointed out, the video on the right is not how it looks when running on a PS classic. So it’s not a proper comparison video.

Sure, yet the point still stands that even on default settings what is shown on the right is not how it is on an unmotified PS classic (mine does not perform like that and even DF retro host says it wasn’t like that).

Thanks! I can't just take people at their word without evidence. This will do nicely. :P

Apparently this is the latest in the PS Mini's long list of blunders:

Perhaps the customer base is in another galaxy or dimension =p

What a sad damage control.

What damage control when I acknowledge that the system is among the biggest fails together with things no one even remember?

At least LABO sold over 1.5 million.
