Sony’s sublime God of War reboot has snatched the top prize for games at the Trusted Reviews Awards 2018.

This is because God of War is a masterful reboot of the god-bothering punch-’em-up, which starred the angry and bald Kratos pummelling gods from ancient mythology and being incredibly angry.

In his review, former games editor Brett Phipps said: “God of War tells a wonderful tale through a beautiful spectrum speckled with more than a few drops of the blood of your enemies.”

Aren't GOTY rewards usually given in December?
I know games released in December are usually carried over to next year for nominations. Seems weird to give out a GOTY this early.

While God of War is probably also my own Game of the Year is things stand, I can't put much trust in a website that says the best Nintendo game of 2018 is a game that released in October 2017.

Ah, guess this explains the weird timing. They must do their GOTY Awards for October-September... very odd choice to say the least.

They go from October to October. Next year's one will probably be between RDR2 and TLOU2. 

It's definitely an odd choice of how they separate the years, but I'd still probably choose GoW as this year's GOTY regardless. So I approve :D

God of War was pretty darn amasing.

Is right up there with Red Dead Redemption as best games this generation.

But smash is an ultimate edition of a last gen game? Wasn't it already considered in game of the year awards from a few years back? 

No, Smash is a new game.
