How did I know that this thread would turn into a BotW / SMO vs RDR2 argument. What's really gross is the people who are so biased for one console or the other that they don't even get to play all these great games. Man, if only you'd get off your high horse for once in your life and allow yourself to hold a PS controller you'd know what you're missing out on.

We are consumers. We get to play games. Nintendo isn't doing you any favors, so why get so defensive over MC scores?

And everything I said goes both ways.

Yeah, that's why I stopped responding. I love Zelda, Red Dead, and Mario. I have no idea why people feel the need to turn this into a tribalistic war. All of these games are outstanding for different reasons and I truly do feel that they all should share equal love.

Zelda's unique and fun and has puzzles and tonnes of stuff to do while also having a shockingly good story (I know, I was surprised too when I found out how good the story actually was, considering that the story is NOT the main focus this time.) It encourages exploration, it has a robust physics system, literally over one thousand collectibles, hundreds of armor upgrades, plenty of hidden stuff, and so much to do on your own time. This game is about freedom and exploration.

Mario Odyssey is the pinnacle of 3D platforming, giving us hundreds upon hundreds of tasks, a deep and fun movement system, a new and unique enemy control mechanic, tonnes of heart and soul and more nostalgia than you can shake a stick at. This game is about the pure joy of fun.

Red Dead Redemption is a story and character heavy game with a huge emphasis on cowboy life with deep gameplay systems, tonnes to do, a massive world, and like I said an engaging and well written story populated by great characters. this game is about story and cowboy simulation.

All three of these games are amazing in their own way. Each of them caters to a slightly different crowd, each of them have pros and cons (though they all have far more pros than cons), and they all deserve their remarkably high scores. I see no reason to shit on games you don't like as much (Not you, RaptorChrist, I mean people in general). Happiness is not a zero sum game.

I, for instance, didn't care much for Horizon Zero Dawn. I was firmly in the camp of Breath of the Wild when that game came out but I could tout the good qualities of Zelda without also shitting on Horizon. It's just that simple. I wish people could do the same, here.

Also, it's worth noting that 8/10 of the top 10 highest rated games of all time (At least on gamerankings) are made by Nintendo or Rockstar. Mario Galaxy, Ocarina of Time, Mario Odyssey, Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Grand Theft auto V.

My Console Library:

PS5, Switch, XSX

PS4, PS3, PS2, PS1, WiiU, Wii, GCN, N64 SNES, XBO, 360

3DS, DS, GBA, Vita, PSP, Android

I agree. Play the games first, then talk about them. It is good not to miss out!

Nice set up !

If you like open world action westerns, RDR2 is the better game.

If you enjoy open world fantasy adventure games, BotW is better.

Both camps need to get over yourselves, they are both GotG material. And to those throwing accusations about people with different opinions not wanting to play on whatever console, well OTBWY has already demonstrated how foolish it makes you look.

And if you enjoy open world action-adventure games, RDR2 is the better game.

And that's strictly based on numbers, which are objective.

It's all opinion based, my dude.. dear lord.

The entire topic is objective.  RDR2 is not better than BotW, nor is BotW better than RDR2.  This is undeniable fact.

As far as numbers go, both games have a 97 on metacritic.  Red Dead 2 might be selling more, but the game is on both the X1 and the PS4.  In fact the number of PS4s in the wild alone eclipse the combined number of WiiU and Switch.  With that in mind, one could argue that sales numbers for BotW are more impressive than that of Red Dead 2.

However the fact of the matter is that both are arguably equal in quality and therefore subject to personal preference in gameplay style and setting being the only deciding factor.

This botw talk is hurting my head. Surely you should set up a new thread for this?

Of course, but those numbers are the closest thing to objectivity in this case.
