Slant Magazine just released their review and, as expected, they gave it a far lower score than the average (7/10). They do that with almost every popular game that comes out. They gave Dragon Quest XI a 6/10, Ni No Kuni II a 5/10, Mega Man 11 a 4/10, Xenoblade 2 a 4/10, Breath of the Wild a 6/10, Gravity Rush 2 a 3/10, etc.

I don't get why they're still taken seriously. It feels like they review the game based on what will be more controversial, and not what they actually think of it.

Or maybe they have really high standards?

They gave No Man's Sky a 9/10 when it came out. They don't have really high standards.

Reviews are subjective. The reviewers for those games just didn't like them.

Maybe they took into consideration the developer in question? They expect more out of RockStar than Hello Games?..

I don't know, whatever man.

Yeah, I agree. It's not about this one specific review, it's about how frequent they are. If you go to a popular game that Slant has reviewed on Metacritic, their score will most likely be the lowest. And it's not like they have some incredible standards or anything, most of their reviews for smaller games align almost perfectly with the Metascore.

Well then that's just bad reviewing. You're supposed to review a game, not what you expected of it.

I'll have to read some reviews before I decide if I want this. I was immensely disappointed by the first RDR game despite all the high scores so I'm more than a little wary this time around. Along with GTA4, it's made me pretty damn cynical regarding how Rockstar games are graded.

Nothing unexpected. The amount of workmanship in the game, it is more in 3 Assasins Creed IMO and they got 85+ every time.
Also, the graphics is truly next genish, what is funny because it is huuuge open world.
A miracle.

need a ps4pro for this and tlou2 but its too expensive right now.

Sony was very smart to secure the bundle and marketing rights for the biggest game of the year, this will move a lot of PS4's.
