The country that invented hentai and the love hotel is apparently falling out of love with real life sex.

According to the Daily Mail, "some 44 per cent of unmarried women and 42 per cent of unmarried men in Japan admitted they were virgins in the 2015 National Fertility Survey." (This is up from 38.7% of women and 36.2% of men in 2010)

But that's just unmarried people, so if most young Japanese are still getting married, no big deal, right? Unfortunately, the study also found that, "60 per cent of women and 70 per cent of men aged 18-34 said they were single."

Meanwhile, another study says 30% of Japanese men in their 20s and 30s have never even dated a woman.

The cause of this apparent disinterest in sex is unclear, though long work hours, pornography, and sex robots have all been blamed.

Japan has one of the lowest birthrates of any country in the world, resulting in a population that is both ageing and in decline.

Jokes aside it would be cool to have a deep study that shines a light on whats the cause of this, are japanese in general introverts? i wonder how much porn is really to blame for this.

Indeed, it's a fascinating sociological phenomenon and I doubt it boils down to anything as simplistic as "too much porn".

Japan really needs to ease up on their immigration policies. Bring more people in to offset the decline in population.

In the article it says "workers blame long hours, porn and money worries that put them off relationships" and i can understand those as valid reasons for people of working age, but what about teenagers who dont have to worry about time or money? not to mention they have those hormones going crazy as well...

That can't be right...

Japanese gov needs to find a way to make their people more horny lol.

Maybe something is fundamentally wrong with the way the Japanese socialize?

Lots of different causes, mostly related to the issues of Japanese society.

One of them is that Japanese guys and girls are separated since they're kids. You always have groups of girls, groups of guys, but very few groups of both (only for events or group dates). Even when they go out to drink, it's usually between guys after work.

Young Japanese people also live a lot at their parents place, even until 30. Basically, if they're not married, most young women will live at their parents place to take care of them. They go to work (if they work...) and then go home to help at home. Few chances for meeting guys. That's surely why they invented love hotels by the way, you can't have sex in your parents house...

Japanese people are also introverts and hate taking risks and things that are out of their habits. To meet someone, they will usually go to specific group meetings made to help them find someone to marry. If you find a cute girl in the street and try to invite her on a date or just get her number, she will be scared and flee. Everything is very controlled and traditional here, even dating. One night stands are not in the culture at all.

And most Japanese people are not very interested by sex. Even when they're dating, they don't have sex that much. Don't know why exactly, I guess they have less hormones pushing them than us. Maybe the food, maybe genetics, maybe the stress about everything, surely a bit of everything...

Other thing, they have very few, almost no sexual education. They're illiterate when it comes to sex. No idea about STDs, contraception is not always known, the pill is annoying to get... I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them think sex=kids, and kids costs a fortune here...

I can't even blame them for finding porn a lot more convenient, Japanese society likes to make everything more difficult and annoying than it should be, and dating/sex is part of that.

EDIT: And yeah, of course, they are educated to focus on work work work, so work is the most important thing in their life for most of them. Nobody should ever take the risk of being tired at work just to go find a woman to have sex with the night before! It would be crazy, right? 

For the sake of the Japanese race and culture, I volunteer myself to impregnate as many as possible. Only doing my selfless duty for humanity. Yes, they will only be half-Japanese, but I think that will have to do.
