Both The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel and The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II were originally released for PlayStation 3 and PS Vita, followed by enhanced versions on PC. The PlayStation 4 versions include the enhancements of the PC versions, including 5,000-plus additional voiced English lines, and the bonus of both English and Japanese voice-overs for the first time in the series’ history. The PC versions will also receive Japanese voice-overs via a free update.

Here is an overview of the two titles, via XSEED Games:

Among the nations on the Zemurian continent, the mighty Erebonian Empire has been quick to outwardly stake its claim militarily; yet politically, ugly bouts of internal conflict between the upper class and commoners attempting to rise to power have been steadily intensifying day by day. The Noble and Reformist Factions have been none too kind to one another over the years, and tensions between the two only stand to worsen if compromises aren’t made in the very near future.

Rean Schwarzer, like any other citizen of the Imperial Nation, is no stranger to these rising conflicts: the class system has been deeply embedded into the hearts of every Erebonian since the days of old. As a seventeen-year-old student preparing for his new life at Thors Military Academy, however, he notices that his crimson uniform differs from the standard ones issued to his peers—typically green for commoners, and white for nobles.

Enter, Class VII of Thors Military Academy. For the first time in the prestigious academy’s history, rank means nothing and skill means everything. With nine hand-picked students of various backgrounds and abilities, Rean included, Class VII readies itself to dive deep into the political quagmire that threatens not only them, but the Empire as a whole.

I have the PS3 versions and have yet to play them.  Now, I feel compelled to fork out the cash for these definitive versions.  Wallet is already feeling the hurt.

Nice.I already played the first two Tarils in the Sky games.Once I get through the third and the Crossbell games(Gonna need to find an emulation with fantranslated roms) then Ill go to what effectivelly is Trails 6 and 7(Cold Steel 1 and 2).

Shame that this isnt comming to Switch though.I feel like it would have sold more there and make new fans for the series given that The Legend of Heroes never came to a Nintendo system, given how RPGs there are selling(Cold Steel 1 and 2 were already available on the PS3).

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Nice! I’ve been meaning to play this series. After falling in love with Ys VIII and enjoying Tokyo Xanadu, I’m ready for more :)

PS4 giveing the PS2 a run for its money when it comes to JRPGs.

Will probably double dip for the dual audio. Otherwise, I'd skip. Have to support XSeed spending the money on JP dub.

That's nice, but now how about bringing that third game in the series to the west. I've already played both of these on the PS3, so I'm probably gonna pass on these versions though I guess it's nice for anyone who missed out on them earlier.

I feel like these two rereleases are basically just done in preparation for the next game, though I really wish they would at least announce it already so we could actually get confirmation and maybe even a release window or something. It's annoying to not really know for sure whether it's coming to the west or not.
