@Million

The OP pacifically talks about revenue.

MS could increase their revenue by 32X in a week , everyone with any business sense (including yourself) knows that increased revenue is nothing without increased profitability ,but if that's what the discussion is about then...K

Weren't there some holiday that caused everyones sales to go up ? then the price cut came.

It's a bit too early to say the 360 sales has settled in at 75,000+, therefore, it's a bit too early to determine whether the price cut succeeded or failed.

an increase of 30k if sustained is definitely worth it.

Well that's not what people were saying a few weeks ago. 2 weeks after the pricecut they were all saying it was a failure!

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

Well considering 360 is down to 66k in Europe for the week ending 12th April its hard to call the price cut a big success...

The console jumped up 50k becuase of the price cut and Easter ...
Then stayed about the same ...
Fell to 75k .... where people though it might sit around untill GTA4 boost ...
Now its at 66k ... a mere 20k above what 360 was previously selling in Europe ...

If you ask me the pricecut is a definate failure for M$ ... they should of extended the price cut to Australia/ New Zealand / Asia, as these regions WOULD of seen sales increases rather than people sitting on the fence ...

In the end i think Microsoft has been left with 3 choices

              a) Drop the price in other regions so their pricing is in line with Europe / US
              b) Drop the price in the US slightly in order to temporialy boost world wide sales ( untill GTA4 gives them a sustained boost for a month or so )
              c) Claim the price drop was due to the weakening USD, which meant that Microsoft could finally treat European's properly ( instead of ripping them off ... not that SONY / Nintendo / EA dosn't also price excessivly high)

I don't expect price cuts anywhere else soon, mate. You are overlooking one important factor. The strength of the Euro (and pound). With the US dollar in a slump and the Euro rocketing MS knows that those Euros will translate into happy dollars.

With a weak dollar a price cut now in the US won't help MS.

The European market is where the real money is.

That's why Sony will be please with the results there and MS are desperate to improve business in this region at practically any cost.

MS has no chance in Europe. Too many anti Americans who won't buy an Xbox simply because of its country of origin. They should be throwing more money at dominating America where they still have a chance at creating a large lead in the long term to offset their failure in Europe and Asia.

Yeah, that's why Hollywood movies, Starbucks coffee, the iPod etc etc have all failed in Europe.

The difference is, there is no alternative. There is no alternative to big budget hollywood action movies, there is no alternative to the ipod unless you want to be using CD players forever, and Europeans won't give up their comforts because of their beliefs. With consoles there is a clear alternative, Japanese consoles versus American consoles. I've spoken with more than one European that has said they won't be supporting the Xbox because it's American made and promoted made simply to take over another industry to support their expansionist and capitalist system, an explanation I hear second only to the one that it has too many FPS games which aren't particularly popular in Europe.
