I don't think "effective" is the word I'd use, every multiple sells anywhere from 2-5 times more on PS4. That marketing clearly isn't working.

The only thing that has worked for MS is bundling a game with XB1, only games that have been able to keep a less than 2:1 ratio with PS4 are titles like Assassin's Creed unity and Fallout 4.

Umm probably because the PS4 user base is more than twice the size of Xbox this gen. "Playing the best version on Xbox" has help the X eclipse the Pro judging off the launch numbers.

I realize that PS4 has twice the user base which means all games should at least be selling half as much on XB1 as they do on PS4, but that's not the case most of them sell far more than just twice as much on PS4. Just a glance on VGC numbers and GTAV has sold over 18 million on PS4 vs less than 8 million on XB1, COD WW2 has sold 13 million on PS4 vs only 6 million on XB1, Far Cry 5 has sold 3.5 on PS4 vs. 1.5 on XB1, Monster Hunter has sold over 4 mil on PS4 vs. 720k on XB1.

And we have no idea how much XB1X has sold vs the Pro. Sony at one point had said that 1/5 consoles they sell is the Pro model, so looking at the weekly numbers even if half the XB1s sold these days are X versions Pro sales would still be higher.

Sony is losing playstation console exclusives left and right

Nier (IP hasn't been exclusive since Nier on Xbox 360)
Hellblade (studio bought by Microsoft)
Crash (IP hasn't been exclusive since Wrath of Cortex on Xbox and Gamecube)
Edith Finch (timed console exclusive since day 1)
No Man's Sky (timed console exclusive since day 1)
Firewatch (studio bought by Valve)

Correction: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are losing timed exclusives left and right (that's the idea behind timed exclusivity).

Timed exclusives on XB1:
Ashen
Below
Black Desert
DayZ
Dead Rising 4
Deep Rock Galactic
Max: The Curse of Brotherhood
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
Player Unknown's Battlegrounds
Rise of the Tomb Raider
Session
The Darwin Project
Tunic
etc.

Timed exclusives on Switch:
Blaster Master Zero
Brawlout
Graceful Explosion Machine
Hollow Knight
Just Shapes & Beats
Light Fall
Mr. Shifty
Owlboy
Runner3
Shakedown Hawaii
Shovel Knight: King of Cards
Stardew Valley Multiplayer
Steam World Dig 2
Super Bomberman R
Super Meat Boy Forever
The End Is Nigh
etc.

This thread is odd. Complaining about 3rd party games being available to a bigger audience. It's solely a good thing that these games come to more platforms. Console manufacturers ought to strengthen their exclusive lineups by banking on in-house 1st party exclusives.

Hardware sales do not tell the full story. You are also comparing a platform with gaming services and phyiscal sales dont include Digital either. PS4 has clearly sold more software due to the success of the system but Xboxs "play games better on Xbox" is clever marketing which has converted and helped the X become a success story.

Also PS4 has alot more bundles than the Xbox. I rarely see bundles for Xbox and if there is, Xbox use digital codes which dont count as sales while PS4 offers physical media which counts as sales.

MS don't really need to coin any other phrases because that phrase for 3rd party games works a treat.

There are alot of elements that take place when comparing sales.

Wait until MS coin a term for debuting first in USA on X1 as a type of exclusive =p

MS already use a quite effective term for 3rd party games, its "Play the best version on Xbox" or something like that.

Shall we start a list of all the different terms MS coined in this gen to spin exclusive deals as something more than they are?

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

No, sounds like something for a different thread.

Ok then.

There are alot of elements that take place when comparing sales.

1. Both consoles have services and neither one's digital sales are counted on VGC, so it's a completely fair comparison. And if you're talking about Gamepass then it still doesn't matter, none of the examples I gave are available on that service.

2.PS4 bundles usually charge you for the the game that comes bundled, Xbox bundles usually give the game for free. I can't even count the number of times xbox is being sold at base price with not just one but 3-4 games.

3. There's nothing to suggest XB1X has converted any significant amount of gamers, most of XB1X units were most likely sold to people who are big xbox fans and already had an XB1, which would make sense and also explain why XB1 attach ratio keeps falling lower. For instance BLOPs 3 on XB1 had sold 48 copies on for every 100 sold on the PS4, now with WWII (which is "better on XB1X) XB1 version has sold 46 copies for every 100 sold on PS4. Yeah that marketing is clearly working...

Your point on the bundles only furthers my point. PS4 software gains a fair amount of a boost due to the phyiscal media actually being counted as for Xbox bundles dont, so theres a reason why software sales eclipse Xbox software sales.

We also dont have proof which console sells more digital however we know Xbox focuses alot with its online and digital so if MA focus more on digital advertising etc than theres another reason to add to the PS4 software difference.

X had a huge launch and without a link to claim there all Xbox fans your point doesnt count. My point is factual and that it was successful and i know heaps of PC owners who went out to buy an X who arent console gamers. Some are even in this very thread.

A lot of these were timed from the start so they did not "lose" anything. The others have already had their time to shine on PS4 as exclusive, and will not impact anything. Also 1st party games are still exclusive.

It is no different than when Titanfall 2 came to PS4 or Mass Effect coming to PS3. This is nothing new and happens on all sides, so this entire thread feels pointless to me.

Which are shovelware titles?

Well No Man's Sky is plain shovelware. Crash and Hellblade are pretty bad, both below 85 Metacritic. Firewatch was mediocre and Edith was decent, but super short and pretty light on gameplay. So I suppose I overstated it by calling them all shovelware, but they're mediocre titles

This must be the most ignorant comment I’ve read all week. Congratulations. I’ll just assume you were trying to troll.
