No man.

I heard that if instead of using money for space exploration or military funding, we could buy food for everyone that is starving. Or don't you know that if Billionaires gave their money food would just show up, and that when they buy a Yatch that money doesn't flow down they just burn it?

Hey man, I'm starving.  How about sliding me some extra cash so I can eat?

Totally works out. I also heard that if you don't have left overs in your plate, someone in starving condition will have something to eat.

I have no problem giving my scraps away to someone who is in a starving condition - hey, I can't eat everything on my plate - here's to sharing.

I'm talking about a joke in my wife and kids.

Jr finish eating and had left overs.

Michael asks if he know how many people are starving in Africa.

Jr answers that he doesn't see how he eating all would make people in Africa not starve.

I'm okay with military spending if it's for technology. Internet, Commerical Airlines, Microwaves, GPS, ect was thanks to military spending regarding technology. I don't like spending money on useless wars, however.

We should figure out ways to lower taxes and make our country more attractive for investors so we can steal all the billionaires from our enemies. That way our enemies won't have as much money to spend on their military and eventually crumble.

If we want more wealthy people in the US, the solution is simple. Super high taxes on the rich so the homeless can do drugs in nice hotels.

I've got mixed feelings. Maybe the military budget is too high, but in the grand scheme its still a relatively small amount of our overall spending. Left wingers don't seem to know most of our spending is already on social services. Shame Trump can't take $20 billion off that and build a wall already.

Edit: On a side note there probably isn't much opposition because people do fear of Russia, China, and North Korea. Even the left has made them out to be looming threats and they have to walk back rhetoric to oppose the spending.

When you adjust for buying power the United States doesn't outspend this collection of Countries displayed in the image.  China, for example, would be getting 315 billion worth of military power to the united states 717 billion. The united states spends a lot of money on the Military. There's no doubt about that. Thankfully Trump hasn't been expanding upon the growth in long lasting wars which had been on the rise during the Bush and Obama era's.

One way to spin it... But no.

The military budget is fine, allot of that cash goes back towards various industries which turns the cogs of the economy, provided there is appropriate taxation going on.

What's wrong with social services?
Countries with the greatest standard of living have such a standard because of various socialist schemes.

The USA spends more on welfare, healthcare, education and so on per-capita than allot of countries, but you still fall short in most metrics, you simply aren't getting bang-for-your-buck.

The Wall will never happen, it will never be twice as high, it was just political speech to try and win him some votes... The money wasn't even the issue.
Trump downgraded it to a fence in areas... Heck, he will never even get Mexico to pay for it either... Yet people lapped up that rhetoric during his campaign.

I feel the fear of China is more or less because many Americans fear being displaced as the most powerful country on Earth. - Us Australians tend to have a fine relationship, we got filthy rich and avoided the Global Financial Crisis because of China.

As for North Korea and Russia, that is an entirely different kettle of fish, North Korea is more bark than action, Russia is geographically near the USA, but you are right that people have genuine fears about them, for some reason.

I don't think NYC is more inviting than say London or Paris. Besides you can spend billions of dollars on your defense and you still can't stop 3 planes crashing in your buildings. As long as civillians are on board.

Except now those civilians will fight back with everything at their disposal - just like the passengers on United 93 did.  Prior to 9/11 the conventional wisdom held that passengers and crew should cooperate with the hijackers - and they would end up alive when the hijacking ended.  9/11 changed the game - no longer will any passengers and crew trust the hijackers to let them go alive.  From that point on - all hijacked passengers/crew must assume the worst case that the hijackers are on a suicide mission.  No more cooperating with those assholes.

Don't see how that's relevant to a millitairy budget though. Besides if some group really wants to commit a terrorist attack, you will not stop all of their attacks even if you put all your recources into it. Hell perhaps terrorists will board the entire plane next time, I doubt terrorists are going to fight themselves and the crew can't outfight an entire plane of terrorists. Same goes with mass shooting you simply can not stop it at best you can limit it to a minimum, by making it very difficult, but that's more a rules/policy issue than an issue you can simply throw money at.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I didn't expect that comment to be take seriously but has some reality.

The military isn't exactly being efficient with its resources, but that's another debate.

I'm saying many left wingers don't realize we are ALREADY spending a fortune on social services. For fun sometimes I tell them the actual percentage of our military budget and its a lot lower than they think. However, the left never says we need the best bang for the buck on things like healthcare or education, their solution is simply pour more money in.

People didn't really expect Trump to accomplish the wall goals per se. There is too much opposition even though the actual cost is a drop in the buck relative to overall spending. The left has opposed the wall and made it clear they don't want to be tough on illegal immigration in general. Trump does boast he already has a billion for the wall, curious to see how he tries to get more.

I don't believe our only concern with China is they're becoming the most powerful country. They're essentially a threat to the US in every way possible.

As for the F-35, that is a contentious issue, it's overpriced, under delivered, we could have gotten a better deal elsewhere.

You're far too gentle and mild about it, the F-35 is one of the most shameless scams the USA ever gave to their allies. Many years ago the scandal about the Hercules C-130 was mainly about its excessive price and bribing allied countries politicians, but it was a decent airplane, particularly after all the improvements it received in its long career, but the F-35 is utter overpriced flying crap, if it even manages to fly, that is.
