Forums - Politics Discussion - Children Drugged and Sexually Abused in Trump Camps

I do find the number of posters automatically labelling this a fake news, without any really backup to say that the story is false, a bit disconcerting.

Just because something doesn't conform to your political outlook doesn't make it fake.

Just because something doesn't conform to your political outlook doesn't make it fake.

If you really are interested in knowing why so many people come to that conclusion, you need only look at the title of this thread. Compare that to a direct quote from the article:

"This is not a partisan issue as reporting suggests many have been occurring for years. Immigrant families and children kept in federal custody deserve to be treated with basic human dignity and respect and should never be subjected to these forms of abuse." Those quotes come from senators Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

Additionally, the story specifically says: The bipartisan leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee asked federal investigators late Monday to examine allegations of sexual, physical and emotional abuse of immigrants held at government detention facilities, saying the mistreatment may have been occurring since 2014 or earlier.

So as someone who clearly sits in the middle of the political spectrum, my takeaway from this is that their is concern with the treatment of immigrant children in government facilities. The issue has potentially existed since 2014 or earlier which means that it has happened during both the Obama and Trump administrations. Politicians from both sides of the isle would like an investigation into this situation.

Compare that to the title of this post and some of the responses and you will see why people would classify this as fake news. It's not that their isn't a story here, it's simply the partisan way that the whole thing has been represented.

That's political spin, doesn't mean it isn't true. If it's being going on since 2014, and still happening now means that it is happening in the 'Trump camps'. Failing to draw attention that this would mean it also happened under the Obama administration. A better term would be biased news.

Call it political spin, biased reporting, lies of omission, or fake news, it makes the original poster lose credibility. If we as a society want to solve these types of problems, a clear and unbiased assessment of the situation is what is needed. It would be just as easy for someone from the right to post this same thread with a title "Children Drugged and Abused in Former Obama Camps". Just more spin and it simply doesn't help.

At the end of the day, do we want to be outraged that something like this has been potentially happening for 4-5 years and do everything we can to put a stop to it? Or do we want to simply use it to discredit our political foes.

The whole family needs to be deported together as soon as they are found.

I read the article. I take a look at the thread title. I read OP's post.

What was the purpose of this thread again? Is this another Dems/Left dindu nuffin wrong?

Simple reading comprehension already says it's a problem way before Trump took place. I think OP needs to be banned for posting skewed half truths. This is the exact cancer that's been plaguing the internet with regards to anything political.

People coming here illegally is an issue that needs to be resolved, but I'm not sure what the best way to dissuade people from coming here actually is. Deporting them back to their country is the obvious thing to do, but that isn't "scary" enough to convince people that they shouldn't come here illegally. These people have the media on their side (for the most part), but what do the victims (the parents, not the children, obviously) actually have to say about it, knowing that they illegally came here in the first place? What's their defense, and wouldn't they have come to expect repercussions?

God forbid we send them back. God forbid we enforce a system for a proper Migration.

Till this day, I still feel cheated for the 10 years we have been separated as a family because we chose to play by the rules. Meanwhile shit states like California would rather not fix the issue of illegal immigration and instead play sad tunes that these people need help crossing illegally. Fuck this state and what it stands for. I really wish there would be a movement for people like me because I will seriously join that. There really is no balance in California at the moment with all the political correctness of the democrats.

Blaming the victims who have next to nothing in life. These kids are getting sexually abused at these detention centers.

i mean here you are typing about how something needs to be done, but what do you do?

volunteer work? cooking down at the local soup kitchen? letting them live with you? i'm just curious

This agenda of the left is using human/child suffering as a steppingstone to mightier grounds and its really sickening.

They love poor people, that is why they fight so much to make more of them.

actually their goal is to make everyone poor

many of them want to seize all of your private property and hand it to government to regulate so that you will never have a chance of making more than they think you should

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs"

"Means of production are everything that's used to produce goods. Factories, businesses, etc. Seizing them means that the government takes control of them, and (according to communist theory) uses them for the greater good instead of for personal gain as in capitalism."

but they never seem to realise that ultimately someone still has to run government especially the massive government that would be required and therefore has to have a hierarchical position above everyone else and that this therefore is slavery/feudalism

I shall never knee to the socialistic ideal of "socialist is someone with a lot of ideas to do with other people's money"
