If you really are interested in knowing why so many people come to that conclusion, you need only look at the title of this thread. Compare that to a direct quote from the article:

"This is not a partisan issue as reporting suggests many have been occurring for years. Immigrant families and children kept in federal custody deserve to be treated with basic human dignity and respect and should never be subjected to these forms of abuse." Those quotes come from senators Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

Additionally, the story specifically says: The bipartisan leaders of the Senate Judiciary Committee asked federal investigators late Monday to examine allegations of sexual, physical and emotional abuse of immigrants held at government detention facilities, saying the mistreatment may have been occurring since 2014 or earlier.

So as someone who clearly sits in the middle of the political spectrum, my takeaway from this is that their is concern with the treatment of immigrant children in government facilities. The issue has potentially existed since 2014 or earlier which means that it has happened during both the Obama and Trump administrations. Politicians from both sides of the isle would like an investigation into this situation.

Compare that to the title of this post and some of the responses and you will see why people would classify this as fake news. It's not that their isn't a story here, it's simply the partisan way that the whole thing has been represented.

That's political spin, doesn't mean it isn't true. If it's being going on since 2014, and still happening now means that it is happening in the 'Trump camps'. Failing to draw attention that this would mean it also happened under the Obama administration. A better term would be biased news.

Call it political spin, biased reporting, lies of omission, or fake news, it makes the original poster lose credibility. If we as a society want to solve these types of problems, a clear and unbiased assessment of the situation is what is needed. It would be just as easy for someone from the right to post this same thread with a title "Children Drugged and Abused in Former Obama Camps". Just more spin and it simply doesn't help.

At the end of the day, do we want to be outraged that something like this has been potentially happening for 4-5 years and do everything we can to put a stop to it? Or do we want to simply use it to discredit our political foes.
