With a higher PS5 launch price, early adopters are probably going to expect at least one big game around that same time. Whether PS drags out what's left of the exclusives so at least one closely aligns with the launch, or has something new planned, they will need something worthwhile regardless. If PS4 is $399-$449, they can probably get away without any major new exclusives for a little while. Affordable or a touch on the high side, if PS5 launches during the holiday season, it wouldn't be a surprise for them to have some timed exclusivity deals with big third party titles and then ride that out until spring 2021 before dropping a first party exclusive.

I'm not sure if PS would risk a new IP as the reason to buy PS5 early on, as that could backfire if it doesn't catch on, but I also don't see it being GOW, HZD, UC, or SPDY related. Another GOW style reboot for an older franchise may do the trick though if done right. I also believe part of the reason we haven't seen anything new is because TLOU2, DS, GOT, etc, are almost certain to land on PS4, but exclusive games beyond that either aren't, or they haven't decided when to end PS4 exclusive first party content just yet, considering it's massive future user base.

It does sound like Guerrilla has at least two games on the go at the moment, and possibly a third in the early planning stages, but I would highly doubt HZD2 is ready by late 2020. I would guess whichever game they are working on now that's not HZD2, could be seen late 2020 or 2021, with HZD2 probably being a year or two after that.

Don't get me wrong, I dont mean no big title. I just dont think it will be a sequel to on of their current blockbuster IPs. In terms of hardware sales their launch won't need them, taking into account 3rd party titles (which are arguably just as valuable), PS4 BC and the fact there will be Sony titles.

Whether they are reinvention of the wheels, to me it makes sense to have new/ not as well selling IPs (like KZ) because it allows them to attempt new IP's as early in the gen as possible, and taking into account the quality Sony is aiming for, for the most part, I don't think we will see a PS4 launch situation (which alone was crazy without strong Sony IPs).

I do believe that the lack of game announcements is related to teh fact they are all PS5 now.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the reason Sony is dropping events like E3 this year (and the many last year) is to avoid situation where games are announced years and years from release. I am sure there will be something like that at their PS5 reveal but I think they are going to look at announcements that get released within the next 12 months from announcement.

So not going on a PS5 blitz anytime soon will allow that to happen. It is just a guess though. I can see the other Guerrilla game being around launch. Maybe its a new KZ, or a new IP.

I agree it's likely a launch title for the PS5 may not be part of the blockbusters and may not be exclusive solely to the PS5. BC and crossover titles like they've announced could hold them over for a bit. I also agree that a new game from an existing franchise that hasn't seen the spotlight for quite some time would make sense, like KZ. You would think Guerrilla should have something ready in the next year or two.

It could be that all future unannounced titles are being kept secret for their PS5 exclusive reveals. The higher the price of PS5 though, the harder I think it's going to be for PS to lock future games down to next gen right away because it will take a little while for the audience to grow, and the PS4 user base will be massive. On the other hand though, you need reasons to convince gamers to make the leap, and must have exclusives for PS5 only will do that.
