Forums - PC Discussion - Monthly Steam hardware survey analysis

Another f'd up month:

- Chinese language +71.5% compared to January (from 29.18% to 50.06%)

- the unexpected Return of the King (Windows 10)

- several RTX 40x0 models almost double their share compared to January

- RTX40x0-series +37.8% compared to January (from 24.81% to 34.18%)

*sigh*

But maybe that's the new reality and all Chinese gamers booted up their gaming PCs in their free time (Chinese New Year weeks) and took the Steam survey.

Well, I'm part of the resurgence of Win 10, as I took the survery this last month, but I'm not responsible for all the other f*ck ups.

It's cool that Valve developed this tool but, if they don't take care of it, it's useless.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Welp, just got asked if I wanted to participate in this month's steam survey, so one more AMD GPU for the count.

And while we're at it, a recent crash report of a game of mine identified the GPU as... AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics instead of a 7600S.

So that's probably also the data that Steam gets and why the other RDNA3 cards are missing apart of the 7900XTX

So it's a Windows problem, not a Steam one?

Well, if Valve would care (even a bit), they would implement a different (or additional) method to identify the correct GPU.

If tools like GPU-Z, RivaTuner and many more can identify the GPU name, GPU-ID, number of ROPs & Shaders... why should it be impossible for Valve's survey tool?

Either OS or driver; it could be that hybrid graphics (APU/iGPU for desktop and dGPU for games) is confusing the system and it then simply reports as something along the lines of "the Radeon dGPU is running right now" instead of the actual GPU name.

Looks like the Steam survey is back to normal this month - and AMD CPUs getting dangerously close to 40% market share under Windows.

Also, the 5080 has appeared as the first current-gen GPU

I did the survey for the first time.

Interesting that Windows 11 is 50% of the Steam user market.

32 GB owners fell and 16, 48, 64 GB users are rising.

Yeah, all back on track:

It will be interesting to see if the 9070-/XT appear on the survey in the coming months or they go straight to the "AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics" group.
