“4 liberal and 5 conservative” they are there to determine constitutionality. All of these decisions being made by 1 person as a tiebreaker is the most pathetic thing I have ever seen. Hopefully he picks someone who goes by the constitution unlike the 4 liberals who are judicial activists on the bench. They are disgraceful with their decisions, they have no respect for our law and have no place in the highest court. Hopefully Ginsburg is soon too.

I too have concerns as to the future of the court and implications this could have for next twenty years.

Clinton didn't lose because of Sanders, Stein, or Johnson. She lost because of her poorly managed campaign and Trump.  We can bicker and argue as conservatives win again and again, or we can finally put 2016 behind us and try to win some elections in 2018 and 2020.

He chose an ideal time to retire. I hope he enjoys his retirement and Trump chooses another great Justice. It's good news considering a socialist won a primary against a long running dem.

With Kennedy gone, Trump will replace two justices and all we have to do is wait for RGB to finally get out then we'll have the number one reason why Trump winning truly was the best for the country. Keeping Hillary and Democrats away from putting their picks on the supreme court.

You mean god damn the Democrats for doing absolutely nothing regarding the Garland nomination? Look how many bullshit practices the GOP use to get their shit done. Reconciliation, riders, changing rules of congress. What the hell did the Democrats do to attempt to enforce a constitutionally mandated directive of the executive office? Absolutely nothing.

The GOP is gonna stall every time and the Democrats are going to do nothing but complain. Whereas when the Democrats try to stall the GOP they use ways to actually get their shit done. The Democratic Party couldn't even get a public option when they controlled the executive and had votes for cloture. They are useless. All the time we hear about "you can't do anything in the Senate without 60 votes". Well guess what, the Republicans only have 51 and they are getting a hell of a lot of their agenda done. So what is it with the Democrats? Sheer incompetence?

I mean, you are technically correct but for the wrong reason about Democrat 's being unable to do anything. Harry Reid in 2013 was the former Democratic majority leader of the senate. Deciding he wanted to expedite the process of nominating judges, he and his party abolished the rule of needing 60 votes to approve all federals judges with the exception of the Supreme Court. This heavily angered Republicans in a climate that was already drifting towards being polarized. After President Trump won, Mitch McConnell then removed the constraint for the Supreme Court to need 60 votes approval to get Gorsuch in since Reid set the precedent. 

In this case it was democratic opportunism and losing the senate for four consecutive years (likely six after November) that allowed Republicans to reach this position. It's also important to keep in mind that Kennedy would likely not have retired if Republicans did not have control of the Senate. Just as Ginsburg will leave her seat under the Trump admin when hell freezes over. So while it as not sheer incompetence, it was definitely a lack of foresight.

If I remember correctly Kennedy is a center right swing vote. That means that Trump can appoint a super conservative to the court. That means Trump can do a lot more now. Conservative voters must be over the moon right now.
