France had one player more on the field though (the referee).

I was neutral and never saw that. Penalty was 100% justified too

The penalty is questionable, but France's first goal is straight up bullshit. First Griezmann dives, then Pogba is in offside and the VAR is nowhere to be seen.

Platini must be proud.

Well done to France.

Croatia deserved it more but still, good final and a great tournament overall.

Hmm, pie.

Croatia deserved more than this, they were brilliant and managed to shut down Kante completely, they pressured and dispossessed Pogba many times and caused Hernandez and Pavard all kinds of grief all night. In addition, they managed to play the ball deep behind Varane/Umtiti many times as well, Rakitic and Modric completely dominated the midfield the entire match, I don't understand how a man Modric's age can run that much in one game, astonishing, and always precise.
Mbappe and Griezman were disarmed large parts of the match, despite Croatia having an obvious disadvantage on pace, Giroud took down the ball a few times but didn't accomplish much, even as a target man.
Croatia played the best football of the two, but didn't win, all in all it comes down to great tactics from Deschamps, albeit boring to watch and frustrating to meet. The fact that Croatia managed two (legit) goals against perhaps the most organized team in the WC says a whole lot. I'm glad that France managed to score two good goals near the end, if they had won 2-1 on two, at best questionable, goals, that would have been a disgrace for a WC final.

Congrats to France, but also to Croatia for playing their first ever finals, be proud!

How is the penalty questionable? Ball came from miles away and hit his hand, that's a penalty. VAR didn't even need to intervene.

As a neutral as well, France was simply miles better. I was shocked just by how much possession and shots Croatia had when checking the stats after the game, sure didn't feel like they were dominant in any way shape or form.

neither is the pen questionable (hand clearly moves towards the ball - imo probably unintentionally, but we can't look into Perisic's head) nor is Pogba offside

VAR isn't even allowed to check Griezmann's dive

VAR in this tournament didn't do it's job. What I mean by that is, were there any players at all carded for a dive as a result of VAR review? They are wasting game time because they tried to cheat after all.

*sigh* that again is because of the rules for VAR use this tournament

as VAR could only be called to decide for pens/offside/red cards/mistaken identities refs weren't allowed to show yellows based on VAR reviews

afaik one time in this tournament a player got a yellow after VAR had informed the ref of an elbow-situation and that ref probably got deducted a lot of points for that

edit: btw there is an easy solution for time wasting, football needs a stop-clock system

Which is stupid, if there is doubt and a video review is needed for a decision for a penalty and it is concluded not to be a penalty but in fact a dive, a player should be carded for cheating. It is part of the penalty decision after all.

The added time is what is meant to be used after VAR stuff, although in the final, after several minutes of France players complaining, a review and a penalty taking maybe 5 minutes to all happen, plus 2 other goals, only 3 minutes were added to that half. It's the refs decision after all.

Hmm, pie.

Congratulations France, well deserved.
