I was convinced the Wii Wheel would be a bit useless, but I actually like it. I tried the GameCube controller for 1 cup yesterday and ended up returning to the Wii Wheel! Once you get used to the wheel it works just as well as past controls, and actually tricks are easier. The only problem I've had is back ache and occasionally the kart flies in the wrong direction (but that’s more down to lack of practice).
I like much better than the GC controller but I prefer DS controlset, it's so hard to hold items like bananas and drift without droping them with the Wheel.
Predictions for December 31st 2008:
Wii 38,000,000
DS 84,500,000
PS3 17,000,000
PSP 41,000,000
X360 23,000,000
I haven't used the wiiel yet but with the wiimote by itself (motion controls) vs. wiimote + nunchuk (non motion controls) I prefer the non-motion controls as it seems more precise and accurate. They are both pretty good though, and i'll try it again with the plastic shell to see if it makes a difference.

A golden Wii Wheel behind someones name means that they are using the Wii Wheel for a long period of time without changing to another way of steering.
Source: ''We spent long hours testing the game. Some of the staff members only use the Wii Wheel while they’re playing, and those people have climbed rather high in the rankings. And when you continue to use the wheel, you get a little treat… The wheel icon is white at first, but it changes to gold. We call it the Golden Wheel. ''

In a couple of weeks, I will have Mario Kart Wii. Also, 5 years from now, I will sell a Wii Wheel in mint condition on e-bay. Any questions?
