Forums - General Discussion - I'm tired of this overemphasis on diversity spilling into our entertainment.

What's wrong with making someone gay or female for the sake of being that? That's a way to create depth for a character, and even if it doesn't add much to the story it helps bring a sense of liveliness to the world to give mundane details. Also, it seems that in your mind someone being straight or white or male or whatever is the default, so if someone decides to do forego that they're going to automatically get extra scrutiny and will either pass or fail the seemingly arbitrary test of whether or not this diversity is acceptable.

Because it involves co-opting an established IP and changing something to suit the ideology of people who don't like or respect the IP to begin with. It's betraying the people who are the fans of the IP for a shallow politicized reason. This usually results in a poorly written story and characters which makes people dislike this stuff more.

If someone wants characters with certain traits, they can create their own original IP with a story that makes sense with those characters. Just leave other people's shit alone and everything is hunky dory.

New characters are constantly introduced in shows/series, and new revelations of established characters are also commonplace. If nothing is different at all then there is not even a point of having a sequel as it'd be the exact same thing.

This is a rant. Sorry.

I love diversity. I love equality. I love representation.

I think it's great that the world is recognizing the need for women to receive equal treatment at work. I completely agree that homosexual couples should be able to get married. I am extremely against racism in all forms and I believe every person is equal. It doesn't matter where you're from or what religion you are.

BUT STOP INFECTING OUR ENTERTAINMENT WITH YOUR SELF ENTITLEMENT.

1. TALENT is what matters. Not your race or your sexual orientation. So if you aren't as talented as a male developer or director, you still should get the opportunity just because you're female? If you want to get a spot, IMPROVE. Let your work speak for itself and don't use your being female or Hispanic as a reason for your lack of success. It's garbage that less talented individuals are given work just for the sake of diversity. Diversity is good! But not if you're hiring someone just to prove your workplace is diverse and not because of talent!

2. STOP BENDING STORYLINES FOR THE SAKE OF INCLUSION. If your story calls for a homosexual character wherein his/her homosexuality has something to do with the story, then go for it. I would love to experience new storylines that explore these real world issues. But if you're just making a character a female just for the sake of showing inclusion and diversity and her feminine nature has nothing to do with the story, it's just stupid! Why make an all female Ghostbusters cast with a stupid ass male supporting character? Does their being female have anything to do with the story? Or did you just want to show people how "gender friendly" you are? The end result is the story becomes stupid! Did you cast black homosexual Achilles because it adds to the story? Does it? Or does it simply seek to rewrite an age old story unnecessarily just for your diversity dreams?

3. STOP USING STEREOTYPES. Not all Asians are math geniuses and not all African American characters are jacked up gangstas. Characters in games are just placed there as token pieces to fulfill a checklist. "Have we included the obligatory blonde skinny sex symbol? Check. What about the muscle bound black guy who swears every f@$#ing sentence? Check. What about the dumb Hispanic guy who talks like a meth addict? Check." It's like these people are just casting characters to fulfill obligations. Why do we have angelababy in Independence day? Not for her acting, but because she's a hot Asian chick who can appeal to viewers in China! Yeah! Cast her so we can show our movie has mass appeal!

End of rant.

The only reason i gave horizon a 6 was because they forced me for a female character. I like to play as male chars. Thats also why i will bot play black desert. Because the jobs are bounded on gender. Thats just bs. Give the people options. I would not play with a woman or a gay char but some will.

That's not how it works in most of these instances. They typically just change the characters or remove them to be replaced by whatever gender, race or sexuality they had in mind.

I'm all for new characters but they have to make sense within the story and be meaningful.

1. I don't have enough inside in that matter, but I do know Amy Henning was really good. But I am sure game companies are also forced to hire diversed people for the best paying function's and that they are more likely to get promoted even though it may not always be the best decision. The locational manager of my school has even admitted that she got multiple functions for just being the woman and encouraged her female students to do the same.

2. Half of the people on this planet are women, so including them literally doesn't do anything for inclusion. Hell I would even say games without woman characters feel weird. For homosexuals you kind of have a point. Being gay isn't all that common so why should it be in games. If you can be gay in your typical RPG fine. But I don't see a protagonist of a SP adventure game being gay as a pro unless it actually affects the story.

3. I think we can all agree on that one.

The last of us was a good game which had a non stereotypical black guy and Ellie was gay and that actually added to the story. So developers can add diversity/sexuality in a game while it doesn't seemed forced. But I guess they are afraid you wouldn't notice them if you did. So forcing is the better the option I guess or just lazy writing.

1. That's the point isn't it? We have no clue if they're better yet because of this forced diversity movement, just hire the woman anyway whether she's as good as the other guy or not. Isn't that what's going on? It's like companies have token positions for certain types of people simply to fill the slot and be labeled as diverse.

I want to know where exactly it is happening where "better men" are getting passed over for "worse women".

Just because you complain about a thing, doesn't mean that thing exists.

2. Yes, if the homosexual nature or change of character into female is part of the story. But what if it isn't? The two examples I mentioned, Ghostbusters and Troy fall of a city, show it well.

Ghostbusters went all female. For what? Does it make a difference whether they're female or male? No, they did it just to force the concept of a female Ghostbusters team. It's not because we needed female leads because the story is female driven. In fact, it's a movie about shooting energy weapons that take a lot of strength. Look at the original Ghostbusters, how the actors struggled to fire those weapons. So basically, change it so that the weapons require no effort so we can be "inclusive". The fact is those roles didn't need to be all female. Mix them then if you want. But why all female? Just forced diversity.

It doesn't make a difference, but it's worth complaining about anyway?

Why is it so terrible that a film decided to switch their genders from the original movie?

Here's the issue:

All male cast: okay

All female cast: forced diversity!

And homosexual Achilles. Really? Do I need to explain this nonsense? It's a blatant effort to just add a homosexual character in the show. That's why his character sucked. It doesn't fit. It simply doesn't. In the show, he's constantly ridiculed for his homosexuality, but in the original, he's supposed to be this admired conquering hero. How does that make sense? It's clear they just decided to make his character like that for forced diversity.

I haven't seen the show.  But my questions based on my googling:

-What original?

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a direct result of a team practicing diversity hiring. It was so bad, EA had to get another team to fix the game and poor sales caused them to put the series on hold. And if you don't think it's happening elsewhere, you're fooling yourself.

Of course female Ghostbusters was forced diversity. It was originally planned to be two females and two males. But then the studio decided to make it all about girl power, hiring mostly woman for the crew, even taking a picture of them all with the sign girl power. They even used sexism as a way to avoid responding to legit criticism. Congrats, your girl power churned out a shitty flop.

Its the same bullshit they're pulling with SW, which is turning fans off of the product. The Force is female. It's fine for Rey to be a Mary Sue. The character of Rose, who adds absolutely nothing to the story and actually prevents Finn from doing something heroic,  is treated like she's a great character and if you disagree you're sexist. Lando is pansexual. It cost them $700M+ with TLJ. Now, 66% of the users on RT are saying they don't want to watch the Solo movie. Kathleen Kennedy is ruining that franchise with her political views being forced into the films.

The third one is so true.

Here is my suggestion for you:

Step 1) Open up Microsoft Word.

Step 2) Start writing your masterpiece.

Step 3) Get it produced and cast who you want.

Very good advice for people who wants to change pre-existing characters because diversity.

Not cute ( 一一)

It's a bit annoying but I don't really care all that much in general.
