What's the Best 5 Year Stretch In Gaming History? (POLL)

I went with 1996-2000 - OOT, Goldeneye, Gran Turismo, FF7/8/9, Mario RPG, DKR, MK64, MGS1, XENOGEARS, Mario64, Majoras Mask and a bunch of others.

Why did you pick what you picked?

Same here.  Those games you listed are exactly the reason why.

Crazy how back then 3 mainline FF games was released within 4-5yrs while nowadays that same time frame would get you only a trailer of one FF game lol

....Maybe not even..maybe just a teaser trailer...or just an announcement of a teaser trailer lol.

Yes. Just yes! My pick as well.

Who the heck is voting 2016-2020? It's a 2 year span. Is it trolling or 6 years olds that just got their first console?

Oh man, you're killing me. It's so difficult to choose between 91-95, 96-00, and 01-05.

Sigh, I guess -- gun to my head -- I have to go with 2001-2005. Sony at its peak, Microsoft joining the fray, Nintendo turning in instant classics across two platforms (three if you want to include the beginning of DS), and PC gaming crackling with amazing RPGs and shooters.

  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Devil May Cry
  • Ico
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
  • Animal Crossing
  • Grand Theft Auto III
  • Metroid Prime
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
  • Resident Evil (2002)
  • TimeSplitters 2
  • SoulCalibur II
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Beyond Good & Evil
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
  • Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando
  • Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
  • Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
  • Ninja Gaiden
  • Halo 2
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  • Fable
  • Half-Life 2
  • Metal Gear Solid 3
  • Metroid: Zero Mission
  • World of Warcraft
  • Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Resident Evil 4
  • Far Cry Instincts
  • Psychonauts
  • Jade Empire
  • Mario Kart DS

SNES/MD was the golden age. It had the best console ever made, the SNES. Masterpiece after masterpiece. Nothing compares today still.

Probably everyone who accepts that 2017 was the greatest year in gaming (it's simply the truth) and outclasses every other 5-year span on that alone. I know I'd probably vote on it if it was 2020 now, even if there weren't other great games coming out in these next few years (which there are).

Were you around in 1998?
