The king has Brought the genre to new heights. 3.1m sold in 3 days is insane. Other hack and slash games years from now will be influenced by gow just like tomb raider and other action games were influenced by uncharted.

GoW has rocked the industry.

I doubt it has any influence on the current sales of the genre, that's a pretty broad statement. Establishing that a hack and slash can still sell that good might have a positive influence on publishers for future games though. Maybe a single player action game isn't so much of a risk now to investors that have grown weary of the venture.

I'd argue the opposite. I hope it has no effect on the hack n slash genre. It's a huge departure from the fast-paced frantic game it used to be to become a slower, more narrative experience. Variety is always great, so let God of War be this way, but leave Bayonetta and Devil May Cry as they are.

I doubt that it will because the new GoW isn't a hack 'n slash. It's not representative of that genre at all. If someone plays GoW (2018) then plays the old GoW or DMC expecting something similar, they'll be sorely disappointed. It's an action rpg if anything.

I have played the game, and I can tell you that it is more of a western style action RPG similar to Dark Souls or Nioh than a traditional hack and slash game.

God of War set in Greece was a hack and slash.

Bayonetta 1 and 2 are hack and slash.

Devil May Cry is Hack and Slash.

Ninja Gaiden is Hack and Slash.

This new God of War, while a gaming masterpiece and a true evolution of the franchise story wise, is NOT a hack and slash game.  Though I can see how you might confuse it with one since the combat is based mostly on hacking away with your axe.  However, by that logic Witcher 3 is also a hack and slash...however it also, is not.

I wish Bayonetta had 10% of the marketing that this GOW had. So no, this will not influence in any way Bayonetta's sales.

I really hope you are wrong, OP. Janky, up close camera with shoulder button combos and lame lock on is, quite possibly, the worst thing the genre could do.
