That goes against the state claiming to care for the well-being of its citizens. People may have different standards for well-being, but there are still fundamental necessities that need to be met like food, water, shelter and social interaction. I'm also not saying that people shouldn't have to work, but they should be able to enjoy their work and find it fulfilling, and not have to constantly worry about losing their job and thus having their life thrust into turmoil.

Why? What gives them that right? I dont need a nanny state to "care" for me. I'm not a child. If they want me to have a good life then get out of my way. The states job is to to ensure that no one is killing, murdering or raping people and no one invades our country. That's pretty much it.

I'm not saying what the state's job should be, I'm saying what it is. They have welfare policies that provide for the population, because when they didn't the workers revolted and they had to do it to salvage the system.

I'm wondering the same thing for you.

I'm writing paragraphs on almost everything, and each time you give a reply that amounts to less than a line. I mean how can you be serious that people have a right to a good life? I'm just curious, but what's your nationality and age group?

I already see where this is going, but I'll bite. I'm 19 years old and  have dual Canadian-American citizenship.

No, if the state "cared" about you they would have tougher gun laws, a fair tax system and more. The state keeps adding more jobs to its portfolio to calm the lazy masses, but that isnt its job. The states job is to protect its borders. They didnt have to do anything, workers revolted throughout history, in fact they did multiple times in the 1800s and they got shot and the problem was solved until the next riot. The state now provides people with a bunch of gooes and they're still marching. People will always demand more. Solution isnt to give them more. You wouldnt do that to your child. Solution is to teach them some self sufficiency and resilience.

You know, I'm not a statist myself. It's hard to teach them self-sufficiency though while simultaneously trying to force them to rely on them.

OK, it's not going anywhere, I'm just curious to get an idea as to whether your opinions might fit with my preconceived perceptions of your demographic (which is admittedly lazy, but I'm curious). Do you believe in American style near absolute free speech or the Canadian style, more limited free speech?

I believe in a socialist revolution, so neither of those two really.

How are you not a statist though? Dont you want the government to guarantee everyone a good life? Whats your definition of statist then and where do you fall on the spectrum?

The thing is back when the US formed people had to be self reliant - the state came in at the end of the century and started expanding its role in every day life since. People are perfectly capable of being self reliant, that's our natural state.

Would you cap income/wealth?

I don't see the state's goal as guaranteeing a good life for everyone, I see them as maintaining class division in order to stay in power and maintain their power. Therefore, a revolution must be made to force them from power and once successful a state would no longer be needed.

So wait, after a revolution we'd go to anarchy? I'm an anarchist and we seem to be far apart on the spectrum issue wise.
