Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan sales (Week 12): Media Create/Famitsu/Dengeki - March 19-25, 2018

Switch is on fire (50k is alot).
Sad that a meh kirby game is outselling Ni No Kuni 2 in japan.

Around the Network

It's weird to see Zelda above Mario Odyssey. Hoped for better for Ni No Kuni, think the original did about 63k if memory serves me well. Hopefully it does better in the West.

Damn I didn't expect Kirby to hold so well! PS4 slightly up this week and Switch slightly down.

Yeah, but the real story is Xbox One.  Look at that YoY.  Everything else is down.

XBO is a beast in Japan confirmed! PS4 and Switch are also up YoY, although not as much as XBO.

They are down YoY according to the first post.

Switch     Last YTD 519k     YTD - 640k
PS4          Last YTD 482k     YTD - 694k
XBO
 Last YTD 1.8k     YTD - 5.5k

They're all up YoY, he meant total, not just this week.

Hyrule Warriors so low... I didn't even know it was out already!
Kirby did wonder... in the face of all those flop threads! million seller (WW) secured.

Switch over 50k (not bad), still stock issue or this is its baseline?

Baseline imo.

Ni No Kuni and VC4 completely bombed.

Good hold for Kirby.

How did it completely bomb if it did almost the same as the last one?

Here is the week 12 update in terms of the two big consoles in Japan's path to be able to reach the commonly stated (in these sales threads) estimates for 2018 sales (2 mil for PS4, 4 mil for Switch) .

  TWS GD YTD AWN (Change)
PS4 23,856 -8,569 694,428 32,639 (+214)
Switch 50,412 -32,765 640,129 83,996 (+819)

TWS - This week's sales
GD - Goal differential, the difference between the average week needed from last week compared to this week's sales
YTD - Units sold in 2018 so far including this week's sales
AWN - Average weekly sales needed to reach the estimate for the console.

Pretty much the same as last week all across the board. Both console's AWN is slowly creeping up.

Good hold for Kirby. Monster Hunter is down down down. Good hold also for Switch hardware. 50k would be good to go on weekly.

It's interesting to observe how bias manifests itself in sentences. xD

Oh the irony. :)

Edit: The reason it went down down down, is because of low stock stock stock.

Nah, 45k~55k is ok, but I wouldn’t call it a lot. Some game releases like Smash and Animal Crossing should up eternally the baseline to 70k+.

And Kirby is definitely selling 1m in Japan. xD

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won
