Does VGC do tournaments? Kinda wanna knock Kirby007 down a peg or two.

For Smash 4 on 3DS and Wii U, I organized a league where you could challenge fellow VGChartz players while allowing for a flexible schedule (compared to a tournament)

3DS - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=190865

Wii U - http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193528

As you can see by the post count, they were fairly popular and if there's still interest for it when Smash 5 comes, I'm all up for doing it again.

That could be fun.

That would be sweet! Definitely anticipating it, and of course there'll be interest! It's Smash 5!

Bowser is pretty much confirmed from the trailer. His shadow is easy to spot.

According to the Wiki they are Yoshi, Pit, Donkey Kong, Peach, Ness, Marth, Pikachu, Kirby, Sheik, Samus, Zelda, Bowser, Fox, Captain Falcon, and Wario.

Veyr comforting to hear about Ness! :)

I don't think they'd ever plan on taking out someone that's been around since the beginning of Smash at this point. Like if Marvel (Film Division) just decided that Iron Man wasn't going to be an Avenger anymore.

I think it would be pretty cool if a Monster Hunter got put into the roster, and have them do something like they did with MvC:I. Shovel Knight would be cool, tool, but he's got a snowball's chance in hell of getting in, unfortunately.

master chief for smash lol

Monster Hunter guy/girl should replace the Mii's. Monster Hunter has so many different weapons and they're all crazy fun. Make Monster Hunter a customizable fighter with like maybe 6 weapon choices.

Warning! Huge rant ahead!

Didn't mean for it to turn out this way, but I guess I got a little too into it.

I really hope they fix the single player. Smash 4's single player was the least enjoyable for me tbh, Melee and Brawl's single player were better imo. I've 100% Melee's multiple times and would gladly do so again without problem and the Subspace Emissary was probably one of the few things I liked about Brawl and I also played through that multiple times, though I didn't 100% Classic and All-Star mode, I did end up playing most of it and didn't hate them.

Smash 4 on the other hand, I only went through half of the roster in Classic and a quarter of the roster in All-Star. I can deal with op items, new gimmicks and hazard stages being in the game if I don't have to pick them or use them, it becomes a problem when that stuff is forced into the single player. Their is minimal luck involved in the Single Player modes of Melee and Brawl (if you don't count Classic and All-Star which you might as well since nobodies gonna play those 2 modes over Subspace anyway) so i'm able to get through them with very little hassle and have an enjoyable experience.

Melee doesn't have OP items and none of the stages have ridiculous gimmicks to them that results in easy deaths that are hard to avoid or become too much of a distraction.

Brawls SE is fun platforming with occasional sections of combat that don't forcibly push stock ending gimmicks on you. Now if I do count the other modes, then yes, it's just as bad as Smash 4, but at least you could completely ignore them if you wanted to.

Smash 4 kind of ruins classic and All-Star. Classic is just their so they can show off 8-player mode. They give you choice this time around, but most Matches through out the whole thing involve at least 3 or more characters. The more characters that get involved the higher the chance of the player getting screwed for random reasons (plus the AI do try and gang up on the player if they try and get involved). It's bad enough that I have to make sure items don't get out of hand, but now I have to deal with up to 7 other characters and if that wasn't enough how about we also put random chance on their possibly being a metal or giant character appearing and you have to deal with them along with the cluster of characters. What happened to them being there own thing? Also, I can't predict when that will happen, it just comes out of nowhere, so sometimes I'd pick a match with more people and hope the AI wouldn't target me as often only for a giant Charizard to show up and dominate my asshole. Melee's classic mode was the best. No Op items, no absurd hazards, and pretty much just 1v1 or teams. Very little luck and very few chances of the player getting screwed over, at least Brawl didn't have the 8 player gimmick and mostly followed Smash 64 (that free for all at the end was very bad though, if only for the AI). Why do they feel the need to change Classic mode every game so it's less like the original? It defeats the purpose of calling it CLASSIC mode!

And then theirs All-Star. I quit playing single player after this. All-Star is boring and frustrating to me. First off, every playthrough, you're gonna encounter the same characters in the same order making this mode VERY repetitive. I get what they were going for, but the main reason I can go back to Melee's Classic and All-Star modes is because they were completely randomized, you didn't know who you were facing or the teams you would be up against, that stopped it from getting tedious. Brawl went away from this somewhat with classic mode putting the player in match-ups with series characters in a group, but from what I remember they still randomized quite a few things. Smash 4, it's the same thing every go around and it was cute at first but got old fast. The big problem with this mode though is the stages. In Classic mode the stages weren't a pain to deal with since you had reasonable choice in the matter, no, the problem with Classic mode is item balance and 8 player being involved, introducing too much luck into the equation. All-Star, you don't have to deal with items or tons of characters on screen, you have to deal with the stages this time around. Their are a lot of stages in the game that can just screw you over and the longer that you stay there those chances just increase. Every round you're pitted against I think 7 or so characters with the stage selection being from any of there respective series. Most characters have at least 1 stage that isn't ideal for single player due to hazards. I could come up with a bunch of examples for why, but ill just give the best and most frequent one I experienced.

Lets say i'm going through this mode taking some damage here and there and i'm approaching the end and I have 1 remaining heart and i'm saving it. I start the round and i'm on Port Town Aero Dive. I accrued significant damage (80%) but thats not enough for cpu's to take me down. We arrive at a stop and out of nowhere a Racer hits me and I die. Game Over. I try again and get the same stage, this time I try and avoid the racers, anticipating when they show up I hop up on a platform assuming i'm safe. wham! I get hit by racer, die, Game Over.

That has happened on a number of occasions, it's not always Port Town Aero Dive but out of all the stages in Smash 4 that one is probably the worst to get in single player and their are many others. All-Star was my breaking point and made me realize how much I hate alot of the stages in the game, in fact, the single player as a whole completely turned me off from casual play. I can't even stand free-for-alls anymore because of it. I'm not completely against casual stuff either. I can totally play Melee with all items, on any stage, hell one of my favorite stages from Melee is Mute City, it's mind blowing that a decently fair Mute City got replaced by a broken port Town Aero Dive.

I really hope they bring a decent single Player this time around or at least one that doesn't make me start hating the game faster than it took me to hate Brawl.

Also, screw random pick ups for custom moves and stat boosters! If they put those back in at least have the decency to let us purchase them!

Yeah, I really hope that they have better single-player modes myself, that was my main disappointment with the game. I think having a proper Classic mode, maybe an adventure mode and especially unique targets would instantly increase the replay value for me.

I love posts like this. Very detailed and well put.

For me Smash is much more of a single player game than I assume it is for most people. I don't know anyone who plays Smash(a.k.a. i'm a loser hermit), and the online is just fucking bad. That's why I've been thinking a lot about the different ways they can make singleplayer more fun. A good start would obviously be implementing a better online system, with some extra bells and whistles, but that's too obvious ...

I think they need to make a new Subspace Emissary. Brawl had an amazing campaign that made me really enthralled in the world of Smash Brothers. I know people didn't like Brawl, but seeing as how it was one of my first video games, I really felt like I was playing a game where every character was connected in some special way. It helped that the opening to the game really sets the mood, but Subspace Emissary just finalized the feeling of different worlds colliding. As a kid, I didn't know who any of  these characters were and I had to look up where the characters were from in-game. So I just thought of it as "WOW, that's the cool guy with the cape from Kirby!" or "wow that's the blue haired kid from Fire Emblem!"

Smash 5 would already have a better story mode than other fighting games just based on the fanservice of having dozens of characters in one singleplayer mode. But it would help even more if the lore of Smash was expanded on, or if they made a really interesting main villain that you can unlock after you finish the campaign (sorry, don't know if this is already a feature in Brawl ... I never finished it's campaign unfortunately). Smash-specific characters would be cool, besides just Master Hand. Or if that's a stupid idea, scrap that and just make one of the villains from one of the core Smash franchises the main villain. It could even be like an alliance of villains ... though that's probably my least favorite option, sounds too comic book-y.

Another thing that I think could be implemented is an Arcade Ladder mode that takes a page or two from other modern fighting games. I didn't dip into Classic Mode or All-Star mode until Smash 4, and I honestly found both really boring and forgettable ... in fact, I had to look them up a few days ago just to be reminded of what they were specifically. I know that they're .... kind of ... like Arcade modes in other fighting games? I mean, you do fight NPCs and the challenge does get more difficult in classic mode. But an actual Arcade mode would be great! It doesn't even have to have cutscenes in-between battles, just add one big one at the end(although obviously, the more the merrier). An arcade mode could allow for cutscenes that are quirky and funny and aren't connected to one big story like Subspace.

All I want for this Smash is just for Bomberman to be in the game. That would be a dream come true for me ;_;

I've heard of two really good ideas for new multiplayer modes, by the way. I thought I should share them.

One is a King of the Hill like mode where a ring spawns on a medium-big sized map and you and the other players have to get into the ring, or else you will take damage. While this is a very simple concept, I think it would be really fun as you'd all have to get within the same perimeter and be forced to combat in a tiny space. Plus it would be an interesting tug of war to see if you could play mind games and try to keep people out of the hill, they'd have to either contest the hill before they take too much damage, or be forced to wait for the next hill to spawn.

Another idea that I think is really great is a Boss mode where one player gets to play as a really big character, like Ridley, or Petey Piranha, and the other 3-4 players fight against it. These big characters would be locked in this game mode, and it would be an online mode as well, and so you could have a bunch of characters working against one super powerful character. It would be epic!
