Forums - Nintendo - Monster Boy Switch preorders 10 times higher than PS4

A lot of people on PlayStation are only willing to play indies if they're on ps+ while nintendo fans are actually willing to pay for them. There really is 0 reason for a switch version of anything to outsell the PS4 version but a good chunk of the Sony audience expects stuff like this to be given to them for free

There is definitely some truth to this. I thought about getting Rime and then lo and behold I suddenly owned Rime because I have psn plus. Loved the graphics but the game seemed bland though. This looks to me like a game that will appear on psn plus and it wouldn't surprise me if its turns up as psn plus title within a year of release.

So could it be argued that PSN made people less willing to buy games and try new stuff? SInce some of such smaller games will eventually be thrown to the masses as a free lunch and many might to just wait for that to happen.

Would be an interesting topic of research.

That's the first time that i've heard of this game. Never heard of it on my PS4. But then again, if it is digital only on PS4, i won't even attempt to buy it, unless it's like $5-$6 or less. I pretty much only look in the deals section for digital games.

I find it funny how there is always an excuse why a game does well on Switch.

Always an excuse? It’s a reason, not an excuse and it’s the same reason every time when it comes to smaller games.

So you will say this if it sell well on ps4?

11 copies sold confirmed?

WOW, pathetic sale for Switch and ps4 sale is even worse than pathetic if the number is true

Games like this are superior on the Switch because no compromises are made to get them running on the platform and you can play them anywhere. These games often look better on the Switch's tiny screen than when they're stretched out on a big TV screen.

There's really zero reason to buy games like this on the PS4 as the PS4 is an inferior console for most indie games.

This is a fact that really seems to bother a lot of Playstation fans.

Oh and don't be surprised if more and more indie developers start skipping the PS platform because of PS+ in the future. PS has become a bad ecosystem for games like this.

Yeah portability plays a role but there's what 16 maybe 17 million switch's out there vs probably around 71 or 72ish million ps4's. On top of that there's no way every switch owner has a ps4 or prioritizes the switch over the PS4 for games like this. The switch has some advantages over the PS4 when it comes to games like this but the switch should loose out simply because the PS4 has it beat like 5 to 1

A lot of indie games are inspired by Nintendo classics, so that is another reason why they sell better on Switch than PS4.

Steamworld Dig 2 ---> Metroid

Celeste ---> Super Mario Bros. 3

Stardew Valley ---> Harvest Moon

Shovel Knight ---> Super Mario Bros. 3, Zelda II and Mega Man

Axiom Verse ---> Super Metroid

I agree on the first part, but wholeheartedly disagree on the second part.

If these Indies appear so often as part of the PS+ rewards, there really is little incentive to actually buy these games.

However, that's not the only reason I'm sure, because even then the sales on the PS4 should be much closer due to the much larger install base balancing it out again. Portability is a big reason as to why to buy it on the Switch, as is it's catalog of similar games, so I'm not surprised that the Switch version is leading, but there must be other reasons as to why the PS4 version is lagging so far behind. Either the audience for such a remake simply isn't there, or indies in general or having a large audience only buy AAA games for one reason or another. Whatever it is, the Switch is the platform to go now for quality Indies.

That would be a study I'd love to see the results in the end. Also, how many doing this with AAA games instead of indies, or don't buy any games at all anymore, fully relying on PS+ for their supply of games

Great to see more third party succesful stories on Switch.
