Forums - Sales Discussion - Is the ratio between retail and digital on Xbox one higher than on other platforms?

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

I can actually say for certain this nonsense isn't true. Hell, I can even say I have proof.

Over here in the carribeans, and in pretty much all of africa or any other part of the world where the playstation isnt offixially beimg supported. We all buy digital.

Why? because its cheaper.

We buy oir consoles from NA or EU. But its cheaper to use oir cards to go to a site like PC game supply and buy PSN cards and use those tp load our qallets and buy games than to buy thw stupidly expensive games from stores over here with their extremely limited selection of games.

Now remember that the PS4 is globally the better selling console. By far. I can't imagine how with the bulk of the ROTW sales being digital for the PS4 the XB1 would still somehow sell better digitally.

To further prove my point, in the last 4 years, since the PS4 launched, I've not seen a single physical game (outside fifa and cod that i see for sale for around $130 in the local agores here). Not one. Never even held the box of a ps4 physical game.

I can agree with this. ALthoug I have left the Dominican Republic in a few years, I belive ps4 games where like $110.

I did different. I always had somebody that visited the US frequently so I ordered a few games every time they went. I dislike digital.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

With services like EA access and now xbox game pass doing well, it's not a bad assumption. They're clearly targeted at a digital focused community. We almost here nothing about PlayStation now on this site by comparison. In fact, I can't even remember the last time it's been brought up. Though, I don't often go into the Sony forums and read their posts to be fair.

If anyone could look up ww2 ps4 figures, it could help. Nothing here is concrete evidence though but the thought of Xbox people buying more digital has been around since last generation, whether right or wrong.

I would also like to point out pubg selling 3 million copies in a month. Has any digital only game done similar figures on the ps4 in such a short time yet?

last time I checked the leaderboards for WW2 on PS4, it was around 15m.

people share copies. people have multiple xbox accounts. used games etc

So it is like i thought

1. The digital ratio is much higher on xboxone then on ps4

or

2.the versions are under (XOne)/overtracked (Ps4) here on vgcharts

or

3. both

so on january 6.

we have  11.6 million (vgcgartz) copies sold retail on ps4 by ~15 million people who started the game on ps4

and we have5.5 million (vgchartz) copies sold retail on XOne by ~10 million people who started the game on XOne

The ratio between the two consoles between 15 million sold on ps4 and 10 million sold on XOne (retail and digital) looks much more realistic to me then 5.5 million and 11.6 and this is only one game where we see this big unrealistic difference

Is the game on PC? If so then the answer is "no".

As for Xbox vs. Playstation, they aren't going to line up exactly because of regional market disparity. In Playstation's case, especially, a clear breakdown is going to be very hard to construct because of its global success.

Has any major publisher ever revealed digital sales ratio relative to region?

Here in Brazil we buy mostly digital as well. I can say that at least for me and my friends. Every single one of them buy digital only, and i'm the only one in my circle who still buys physical from time to time. Lately there have been some great sales, and the prices adjustment, based on how much has passed since the game's release, seems to be much faster. Now when it comes to physical, you either buy cheap second handed, or you pay overpriced new copies on the stores that rarely go down in price, and when it does, its about 2 years after the game's release.

So yeah, here in Brazil i can somewhat attest that Digital is probably more popular than Physical.

I have a feeling this may not be entirely true.

Logically, the majority of the ROTW sales for the PS4 will likely be from regions where the PS4 is officially supported, and likely be supported by physical copies of games as well.

While in unofficially supported regions, while people may buy only digital, there are a lot less owners so I don't think it would really affect the global proportion of PS4's digital vs physical sales, since unofficially supported regions  have a smaller share of the ROTW sales, well since they aren't officially supported.

And the same argument could be said for Xbox owners in unofficially supported regions as well anyway.
