Forums - Nintendo - Kimishima on the current stock situation with Switch

Just let him run with whatever he wants ... (with time he'll acknowledge that there is a surplus with the Switch soon enough)

As more data starts coming from media create, the argument about stock issues will be put to rest ...

The fact that you linked that supply/demand chart in order to try to prove your point doesn't really prove any sort of a real "surplus."

Overall, this argument about stock is ridiculous. When the Switch was critically supply constrained it was a serious issue; now with Nintendo starting to sort that out it doesn't mean the Switch will continue to slow or even is "slowing down" in the first place. No reason to worry, Nintendo fans and no reason to champion this news as any sort of harbinger of death either, non-Nintendo fans.

@Bold Strawman, I never argued about Switch slowing down ...

The fact that the Switch is available at MSRP means that there is no "supply issues" and that applies for any service/product as well. Can't have it both ways but I guess we'll also see soon enough if the Switch really is slowing down since you mentioned it ...

"Real" surplus, LOL there either is a surplus or there isn't and the only thing that matters is current price. Not whether if a few retailers have supplies issues or not according to Kimishima ...

People missing point about Europe market, Kimishima said "Europe in particular have had trouble purchasing the Switch", not that they currently have problem. While compared to Japan, there are still some stock issues curently.

At least the situation is getting better.

This only confirmed what we have been seeing these past months. They got overwhelmed by the massive demand in all regions. I think they did already considering the circumstances, the holiday season was very good. The situation however can still improve greatly.

Last i checked there was plenty of stock here in the Netherlands. I literally remember seing a mountain of them on the mediamarkt during Christmas and my regular game mania was stocked aswell.

Only way it sold out is if Nintendo cut off all shipments since.

I checked the website and it's still in stock, so i dunno where this "sold out" thing is.

As someone who knows someone who works at "Gamemania", the Switches go as fast as they come in. These past weeks at times only 2-3 Switches came in. But they go fast. The Mediamarkt is also going faster than you think. They just get sent more.

That wasn't a strawman nor was it directed at you.

You conveniently overlook other possibilities on the very graph you linked. What Kimishima seems to be talking about strikes me much more as equilibrium. People are paying the MSRP for the product and it's not available at certain retailers so customers go to retailers where it is available. The Switch seems to be under control in Japan. No surplus.

fatslob, make sure not to fall into a self-confirming bias when it comes to the Switch slowing down. Just as a heads up, we are going into one of the slower quarters of the year where everything will indeed "slow down."

@Bold You think I don't realize these recurring long term past trends ? Of course we're headed into the slower quarters of the year ...

I certainly won't deny the possibility of an equilibrium, although it's arguably closer to the right side than it is to the left side ...

Wow the rule where if you post something wrong you corrected instantly is more than 100% true haha. Anyway I went to Wal-Mart while getting Snes Mini(Which was in stock! ) and saw a few there. I live in a sub urban area so that might explain a bit. If there are stock problems I don't see them in America.

Also I don't think I have ever been quoted so many times in a single thread with so few replies haha.

I can't speak for other chains, but the electronics chain I work at is rarely out of stock of Switches. Same thing applies to every other console.

Now trying to get a video card right now, on the other hand...

I think the stock is improving. But base on your graph, I doubt we’ll see a permanent price cut this year. Maybe a Black Friday deal or Christmas deal but nothing permanent at this time. The Switch is still selling and Nintendo intends to NOT sell at a loss as they originally stated. Unless something happens and sales are at a point where they are going to bleed money and the parts are cheaper to produce and all, then maybe a price cut could happen.
