Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should I play SOTC or TLG first?

TLG first, because it's not as good. I always save the best til last.

They're not really connected, besides some gameplay similarities and the 'Team Ico' atmosphere, so it doesn't matter which order you play them in.

TLG first. Then SotC. Because otherwise, TLG would look bad after playing SotC. I havent played the updated version, but damn, I loved it in PS2. And try not to watch the way to kill the colossi. Try to figure it out for yourself, or youll be missing the 60% of the fun!

EDIT: I mean, try not to watch it on youtube, or on a guide.

Thanks guys. This is an important reason for me. I would rather leave the best until last.

If you’re worried about plot connections, there aren’t any.
If you’re speaking in general terms, SotC is the better game and the easier one to appreciate. TLG is not for everyone and if you decide to play it you need to go into it knowing that traditional game design rules may not apply.

Neither. Both are bare bones games and unless you are a child/young teen, a propensity towards easy awe in art or are in one of those fanciful moods you will likely be disappointed by both if you arent on some good drugs.

Say wha?

The way you have to ride aggro to catch up to the thirteen colossi, the feeling when you hop on Avion (5th colossi), its so god damn epic, Art doesnt have anything to do with the badassery you feel doing those aforementioned things for example.

Theres so much more to SotC, that makes it a good game, putting aside the art style. Being myself a bitch for graphics, I can say I enjoyed this game, even tho Ive only played it on PS2.

PS: Gonna grab a physical copy for ps4 just to have it on my shelf.

The last Guardian VR expierence, you won’t want to play either after you expierenced that though

Your awful taste just keeps on giving, doesn't it?

I don't like not mentioning the truth to people who are about to drop full price on a game. @OP My post was a bit inconplete. if you are interested in these games buy TLG diring a flash sale and wait for SoTC to drop also. SoTC is a 3 hour game with the only variation in gameplay being the Colosi models. At the very least TLG has a deeper and more varied puzzle aspect and some solid japanese voice work. Don't go into these expecting anything more than a journey like game with a bigger budget skin. Journey was a great game but you wouldn't pay full price for it? Not even the 40 quid TLG was at release.

I mean why let facts get in the way of your spouting nonsense? Was your only exposure to SOTC during a GDQ event or something?

Sony on PS3 put out a great ICO like game few have played. I strongly recommend a game called rain or Lost in Rain. While you are caught up in Team Ico games don't forget this Sony IP of the same nature. Of Team Ico games I'd say Sotc.

For me it makes most sense to play the games in release order. So, I'd do this:
Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
The Last Guardian
Shadow of the Colossus (2018)

I could understand if you said you didn’t like SotC because of the barren world but critizing the colossi fights I dont get at all. Shadow of the colossus is a genuinely great puzzle game on top of having that beautiful atmosphere and a plot that asks players how far they would go to save a loved one. It offers puzzles disguised as giant boss battles and no two fights have the same solution. It fully exausts the breadth of its mechanics, not too mention how technologically ahead of its time it was. There’s nothing else like it and saying the only gameplay variation is in the colossi models is absolutely not true.
