Forums - Gaming - Next Dragon Age game will be a "live" game

They've been turning their games into always online, Micro trans, GaaS experiences, and people are still buying them.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

EA strikes again.I already consider Bioware dead at this point. Its a shame really.

Anyways, by "live" it seems that the next Dragon Age story will be an ongoing experience, in the sense that the story will be updated regulary. In another words, a game as a service game.Even on single player focused games, EA tries to push this bullshit practice. It may be mean to say this, but I hope this approach fails, at least as far as single player games are concerned.

Almost nothing of what you just said is even in the article, much less the tweet.

I don't really see the point of not giving the story right away?

You get to release the game earlier because you don't have to worry about finishing the story, and then you get to make more money by selling continued story DLC at a later date.

Ah, that's smart. Maybe they could also put that story DLC in lootboxes?

Its written betwenn the lines.Consider EA recent history with their games and their current goal to implement said type of structure into their games and its fairly easy to predict what the game will turn out to be based on what was said on the article and the tweet, at least how they plan to treat the overall business model for the game.

Im not saying that the updates will be paid DLC, like Destiny, but it will without a doubt implement many stupid measures that will ruin the experience.Be they an incomplete story, that will be trickled through a long time(making for a weak story driven game), or a Destiny style approach, where you pay for each expansion of the story, or simply riddled with microtransactions that will potentially ruin the balance of the game like in Shadow of War, even if in that particular game it was more geared towards the multiplayer aspect of it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Yeah I am done with series then. The first game was the only fantastic one anyway. II was lackluster and III had many problems and was merely good because of that.

Well...how much live exactly? This much?

Then, yeah, sure, count me in.

If any good, sale purchase as complete package 6 years down the road.

...who am I kidding, I haven't bought an EA game in 10 years.

That's conjecture on your part.  Conjecture is fine but you made it sound like all of that was said in the article.  It wasn't.

This is the tweet --

"Reading lots of feedback regarding Dragon Age, and I think you’ll be relieved to see what the team is working on. Story & character focused.

Too early to talk details, but when we talk about “live” it just means designing a game for continued storytelling after the main story.

— Casey Hudson (@CaseyDHudson) January 25, 2018"

This could be bad, certainly, but it could also be good.  Expansions that continue the story have a ton of potential.

Either way, I'm not going to be outraged or delighted until I know details.

What I wrote was my opinion on the matter.Taking out the part which is pretty obvious where they are going with what they meant in the tweet, I was stating my personal interpretation of the article. If someone wanted to read the original article, there was the link that I put in the OP

A "Live" game?

How about a "great" game?
