Exactly.
Nintendo may have skimped on the CPU, but they did invest it into graphics and audio making the console a visual and audio treat for the generation...
The best part is how much depth the audio can have on the SNES, which the Donkey Kong series showcase with really good low-tones.
The downside is that... When porting SNES games to say... The Gameboy Advance, it couldn't handle those low tones very well, so audio was a bit of a miss on that device.
But that is okay.
