Forums - Sony Discussion - PS4 Sells 5.9 Million Units Worldwide During 2017 Holiday Season, >73.6 Million Sold Through

If that's the route Sony goes, than I think it will most likely be flat YoY or slightly down.

great sales, but december seemed like weak month.

Black friday was nuts, but they didnt have stock enough.....

December was weak, they wherent aggressive with bundles & prices.

If sony had wanted they probably could have ended this year another 2m higher or so.

yea seemed like they were happy with november and didn't want to sell the ps4 at a cheaper price. they should have went with the COD bundle instead of battlefront.

Q4 might be a little tough to sell thru 5.4 million to hit their target of 79 by March 31, they must have a price cut this quarter.

Great sales, i originally thought 2017 would be slightly down from 2016 considering 2016 was basically flat from 2015, im glad to be wrong this time

I expected every console to be down and the Switch to do well. Glad I was wrong on all accounts as every console seems to have kept up well, and the Switch sold better than I thought. And 2017 didn't really have any huge games.

Heres my quick guess for sales in the coming years.

2018-back to 2015/2016 levels or about ~17 million bringing LTD sales to over 90m.

2019-another slight decline to around 2014 levels or about ~14m, LTD around ~105m.

2020-PS5 will release in the fall so PS4 sales will take a hit, maybe around ~10m, LTD ~115m.

2021-2023, post generation legs will be better than PS3 but far from PS2, i see another ~10m in these years bringing final sales to ~125m and becoming the 2nd vest selling home console of all time.

Guys also:

PSN has >70m active users, and PS+ over >32m.

32m people all paying 50$ to play online each year....... ($_$)

73.6 is sell through so shipments are closer to 75-76m. They need to ship 3-4m in the next quarter to reach their target.

if you're talking about ps4, aside from COD, i agree. RDR2 could be the next big thing, especially if they start off with from the  people that brought you GTAV, that alone could sell a ton of consoles. then spiderman will be huge, as well as GOW.

20 million in a single year is amazing, congrats to Sony. When was the last time a console did 20+ million  in a single year?

Will be interesting to see if it sells more this year.
