I am surprised that the difference in sales is this large. If this continues that will mean nothing but good news for 360. I expected a 10% difference at the very maximum. Anything above 50% would be viewed by most non-PS3 fanboys to be huge.

Just look at Devil May Cry 4. PS3 was greater then 360. PS3 has momentum and if it can't keep close to 360 GTA IV sales, that won't be the best news for the PS3.

You realize this is for North America.  Expecting only a 10% difference is ridiculous when there are 2.5 times more 360's.

As much as various fans want to justify, and make up fanciful ideas that the PS3 version will outsell the X360 version, it won't.

Will it eventually be close? Yes. But I just don't see *how* it's going to happen.

US: Clearly, the X360 version is going to sell better. Will the PS3 have a better attach ratio? Sure, but so did Call of Duty 4. COD4 on the PS3 had a better attach ratio, but did it matter?

Sales prediction: 7,000,000 Xbox 360:5,250,000 PS3

Europe: Everyone believes the PS3 version will sell leaps and bounds better, but how often is that happening in Europe, for major shooter-type games right now? Last I checked, the closest comparible, Assassin's Creed has sold about 1.1:1.0 in Europe, and I tend to think that GTAIV might fare a little better on the 360 side of things ala COD4, which sold about 1.15:1.0 in Europe, in favor of the 360. The 360 version will win the first month or two, but I do agree the PS3 version will eventually lead, due to sales momentum of their system.

Sales prediction: 3,450,000 Xbox 360: 4,000,000 PS3

Japan: The only real place the PS3 version will outsell the X360 version by leaps and bounds, if the X360 version even gets ported. I don't think it will. But it might.

Sales prediction: 60,000 Xbox 360: 250,000 PS3

LTD Sales Prediction, Worldwide: 10,760,000 Xbox 360:9,500,000 PS3
LTD Total Sales Worldwide: 20,260,000 Units. Not including PC sales (2.5m+ Worldwide)

Good analysis, that is a 1.13:1 in favour of 360.

I think your numbers may be a bit high but your ratios may be spot on!

USA: 7m 360 / 4m PS3
EUR: 3.5m 360 / 5m PS3
Jap: 0.1 360 / 0.3 PS3

I still think GTA4 on the 360 will outsell the PS3 version in NA by atleast 2 times. If Microsoft doesn't get a bundle out in EU, i see the PS3 version outselling 360 by1.2 in PAL territory. I'm only talking about launch week ofcourse.

I am only expecting a 15% increase vs. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I think that's more than fair, considering how late into the Xbox/PS2 lifecycle that San Andreas started in.

@mrstickball: When Assassins' Creed was released X360:PS3 userbase ration in Others was close to 2 (excaly 1.91). Not it's 1.18. It is a huge difference and it will be even bigger when GTA4 is released. I'm not saying that PS3/X360 atach ratio will hold but it will be very hard for X360 version to repeate ratio for AC.

Most of the recent multiplatform games sold better on PS3 in Others. The list includes AC, PES 2008, Fifa 08, NFS: ProStreed, DMC4, WWE Smackdown, Kane & Lynych, Burnout Paradise while on X360 better sold only GH3 and CoD4 (I'm not taking in account recently released games like Army of Two as there were too few weeks avalibe but other than that I think I took all big multiplaform released recently)

So summing it up I think that PS3 version will win first week and the distance between two version will grow over time (life PS3 may sell 50% more than X360 version).

Can I ask why when it was GT5p eveyone kept shouting when there was news of a million pre-orders that they were only retailer pre-orders because it is impossible to track consumer pre-orders , but that now its a multiplatform game, that argument hasn't been brought up once?
