This thread willnever end...

I have updated the graphic, TLJ never surpassed TFA and is now meandering around RO.

Yeah, what a ignorant title. The fans have spoken and in 21 days it is the biggest movie of 2017.

Eh, as if that means anything. Anything under $2b is obviously a failure!

Didn't they buy star wars for 5 billion? They made that back after the first movie. The merch on that movie probably made them near 2 billion.

Luke came here to be left alone and die. He didn't wanna be found.

I didn't even mind this development but the problem was the outcome. Humanizing Luke and showing his weaker self was an interesting idea, the issue comes when it has absolutely no pay-off and he just dies without doing anything meaningful.

I too liked that they showed a more apprehensive, vulnerable side to Luke in a way - I suppose it sort of makes sense as after 30 years, and the things he's probably seen especially, one would start to grow more cynical as they grow older.. But yeah that payoff was so lame, and additionally  - the movie failed to really fill in the gaps as to WHY Luke acted so defeated and bitter. Like what happened in those 30 years to make him so apprehensive? How was it that Obi Wan could be so optimistic even after the Empire had essentially wiped out the whole Jedi order and yet Luke was all doom and gloom simply because the rise of the Empire 2.0 and his emo nephew turning to the dark side..

I pretty much expected Luke to die even before I knew anything about the movie, and that ending where he sacrificed himself actually could have been somewhat of a cool way to go out, if he would have AT LEAST actually been there in person. But no, he goes out like a cowardly chump by "force projecting" himself to the salt planet and keels over on his desolate island without ever leaving. Pretty big buzz kill if you ask me.

I thought it was $4 billion?

I enjoyed seeing Mark Hamill back in action since he was my childhood hero but couldn't he have just "Force Skyped" Leia and said "There's an exit in the back of the cave."

He'd still be alive to help the surviving rebels fight. I mean he died to buy them time but rather than buy time he could have just gotten them out of the cave quicker. Maybe Super Leia could have moved those rocks since Rey was taking her sweet ass time (I mean she has the fastest ship in the Galaxy and she left when Kylo was still taking a nap...)

Leia only used the force in a subtle way when she was in a critical situation, it doens't mean she is able to use it like she wants whenever she wants and there is no reason why Luke should know where the exit of the cave is.

Yea. If Rey can use it however the script needs her to, Leia should be able to as well. We know it's canon now that only men need to train. I am disappoint Rian.

But Poe was like "He's buying us time so we can escape. How did he get in here? There must be another way out!"

If Luke didn't know there was another way out, what was his plan? To mess with Kylo one last time before he died?

I think the obvious answer is yes. Luke is a dick. That explains the dice. Either he crushes Leia if she keeps them, or he fucks with Kylo when he picks them up.

Honestly the more I read this thread the less I like TLJ. A lot of points being brought up that I didn't even consider before that just seems BS now. And I used to like the PM well enough but I suppose I had selective memory by forgetting that Anakin was even in the film dominantly, I tend to ignore characters like that.

Funny that Hermione written by a woman was a strong but flawed character, IE a relatable and good character, but when Hollywood takes over they force her to be a Mary Sue.
