So the confirmation from Nintendo today is that Switch has sold 10m in 9 months.

I think anyone still arguing this fail notion are going to end up like the same mob who argued Wii would stop selling and fail.

One question I have though is are these units that Nintendo sold to retail (ie shipped; which is the number Nintendo tends to report to investors) or is this the sold-through rate. If it is the sold to retail (shipped) then those numbers would be somewhat smaller than what would be needed to reach their target. If it is the sold-through rate then that means they are in a good position going into December to reach their target. They essentially want to ship as many units as they did with 3DS back in 2011 (ie LTD shipments should be around 17.78 million units by the end of March 2018). When we look back at the end of December 3DS was at LTD 12.4 million units sold and 15.6 million units shipped. If the Switch is going into December with 10 million units sold to customers, then selling around 2.4 million units by the end of December should be achievable, but if they shipped 10 million then I don't think it will reach 12.4 million LTD by the end of December due to limited stock in Japan and less competitive pricing in US and Europe for the family and children market.

They shipped 2.4 million units since Sept 30th.

Stands at 10 million now.

Tell us again how things are looking bleak.

I am sorry for repeating myself, but I have not been able to find a source to confirm this (refer to my previous comment if you are wondering what the context of my question is).

Are the 10 million Switch numbers the amount they sold to stores (shipped numbers) or the amount sold to consumers (sold-through numbers)?

Sold through numbers. You can see it in the link in the thread about switch reaching 10 million.

Considering the 3ds commercial run, Switch surely will not fail.

You really think its gonna hit 50 million?

Maybe if they drop the price to 179.99...like...tomorrow...

Do you not look at sales trends at all? Because you honestl seem so clueless.

To you everybody is clueless when they are not pro Nintendo. But the truth is that you are just a blind nintendo Fan. I dont understand it anyways how someone can be such a Nintendo fan after the wii u desaster, and playing the same franchises over and over again, seems that your expectations arent very high. Next year sales will drop big times, and everybody who says that nintendo doesnt need 3rd party support is just stupid

This is key.... I've been around long enough to here Microsoft toot their horn on the amazing number of consoles sold..and yet everyone else was like...no no...consumers didn't actually buy that many...its just what was shipped to big box stores and is now sitting on a shelf...

Nonsense that people are entitled to their own opinion?

Trolling from an established account?

¯_(ツ)_/¯

I have news for you. You aren't impartial.

yes ok. are implying established accounts can't or don't troll? man just scroll past any future comment you see from me.

Anyone can troll. But assuming that it's a troll from an established account is something i doubt people do. Unless it hurts their favorite system feelings.

I take that back.  According to the PR for the news, it is sold through to consumers.

Thank you for posting the source. Well these are very good numbers indeed. Nintendo now needs to sell about 2.4 million units in December to keep up with 3DS (both have same targeted shipments for their respective initial fiscal year).

Wow, this thread is everything wrong with gaming comunity, is mindblowing how some people choose to completely ignore reality and to expose themself to be ridiculized in the future just cause they refuse to believe Nintendo is having tremendous success with Switch, is at the same time incredibly pathetic and incredibly fun, I hope someone revives this thread next year, and then the next one too, just to laugh about it.

Hey you remember when Wii U was obviously struggling and everyone one on this forum had crazy predictions like 25 to 50 million lifetime Wii U sales.

I was like 1 of like 8 people on here who said that Nintendo was going to discontinue the Wii U before it hit 21 million sales. In fact I had predicted it within 3-4 weeks of when they actually announced it 8 months before they did it. (I predicted 2 weeks after black Friday 2016 it would killed). But nope some people here acted like Splatoon and some other games like it were gonna change the future of WII U. I even think I got banned around this time caused I pissed so many people off.

Even some articles like this were dropping around the time and yet their sales trend were all crap.

Nintendo Switch not only need 3rd party support but it needs HEAVY HITTERS. System Selling Software...Sorry but Mario cart, Vaccine, Flip Wars, Yoshi And Zelda Breath of the wild just are gonna cut it .....

For the record...I have hope that Switch will not fail...I feel like Nintendo is trying to make this their single product and if they push all of the Gameboy and DS stuff to the switch...then yes...prayers to the gaming gods maybe itll be big...but the way it is now...there be struggles ahead.
