The numbers on Best Buy seem to be somewhat different:

Here is the hardware breakdown on Best Buy:
PS4 Star Wars > NSW Grey > XONE S Madden > PS4 1 TB (confused as to why this is so high since it costs the same as the Star Wars bundle, but this does not come with any bundled software nor does it have anything that the Star Wars bundle doesn't) > XONE X > XONE S Forza > Switch Neon (out of stock; both online as well as in most of the areas in NY that I sampled for in-store pick up) > SNES (out of stock) > PS4 Pro > XONE S ($189) > New 2DS XL > New 3DS XL
Now I am not sure what the time frame for this chart is, but it does seem to be showing a different perspective than the Amazon hourly and monthly charts. Based on the Amazon rankings we can predict NSW > PS4 > XONE for NPD but based on the Best Buy one it is PS4 > NSW > XONE or PS4 > XONE > NSW (depending the actual gaps between each of the positions). It will be interesting to see which is more accurate with regards to NPD, particularly since I am pretty sure both are measuring online sales.
Two other things of note:
1. on the software side of things it is COD PS4 > SMO > COD XONE; this seems to support previous NPD data that found SMO to be competitive against individual SKUs of multiplatform games like COD and Destiny.
2. XONE (and XONE software) is much higher here than it is on Amazon. This could be because there are more bundles offered. Best Buy has a Madden bundle (which I imagine is hugely popular in US) and a Forza bundle for $199 as well as the $189 base unit. In addition, all of the XONEs come with 3 months of free Gamepass (in addition to the 1 free month provided by MS) and Rocket League. The better deals I have seen here and on MS Store (I have not checked many other retailers in terms of deals) compared to Amazon might explain why the system is not selling as well on Amazon (people that want Xbox are probably getting it somewhere else).
As for other retailers and why I did not include them here:
Target: Seems to be showing a similar story as the Best Buy. Here One X is at the top followed by NSW Neon followed by PS4. The problem and the reason why I say the story is similar to Best Buy is because there is fragmentation among the Xboxs and particularly the PS4s (both in terms of software and hardware) where each SKU gets multiple listings and is given different positions (there are several PS4 Star Wars bundles, PS4 1TB with no bundles, XONE bundles, and $189 XONE with no bundles; there is also multiple entries for the same games). All of these PS4 and XONE S clone listings are positioned high and repeated multiple times on the best sellers list, which could be why there is no single SKU in the top positions, and overall does not make Target particularly reliable, but a case could be made that if all these listings were combined the numbers would be similar to Best Buy (though again since we only have rankings and not actual sales data, this is at best a guess and not really a reliable assumption). Here is their list if you want to have a look anyway (https://www.target.com/c/video-games/-/N-5xtg5#Sort=bestselling&clearCategId=5xtg5&Nao=168)
Walmart: Walmart best sellers only includes software and it is largely out of line with everything else. Here is the list for those interested (https://www.walmart.com/browse/video-games/video-games/2636_1040579?sort=best_seller&cat_id=2636_1040579)
Gamestop: Gamestop has both Switch SKUs at the top (considering the system is selling quite well that is not a surprise and shows that the best sellers list is at least accurate) but aside from that the bundles available for PS4 and One are not really comparable to what others are selling. There is for example no $250 Star Wars bundle (GameStop sells them for $299). Most of the XONE S bundles ($199) and the base system ($189) are sold out; the Forza bundle at $199 is available but like the Amazon one it is missing the perks of the ones offered at the MS Store and Best Buy. Here is the top sellers list for those interested: https://www.gamestop.com/browse?nav=28-xu0
Conclusions:
1. Amazon seems to be decently representing both Switch and PS4 but not fully representative of XONE software or hardware for December because it does not have comparable deals and similar SKU options as other retailers.
2. Best Buy seems to be fairly representative overall for this month. It has all the PS4 hardware bundles with corresponding sales, it has all of the XONE bundles, my only issue is that the Neon Switch has not been available there for a while so those looking for that SKU might look elsewhere.
3. Target's big problem is the multiple listings which may or may not correspond with Best Buy when the listings are combined. I would personally guess that they do (though again I would not turn that guess into an assumption since we do not know the gaps between the rankings), but until the multiple listings issue is sorted out we cannot view them reliably.
4. Walmart's best sellers do not seem to be representative or accurate at all. It only shows software and accessories and the software on its top sellers do not correspond with anything.
5. GameStop seems to have an accurate best sellers list (which is more than can be said for Walmart), but for December it does not have the deals for PS4 that other retailers have and it does not have many of the XONE bundles and units in stock; potentially explaining why PS4 and XONE are unusually low on the list here. it is very similar to the situation that Amazon has with XONE, which is why I believe we should not only look at the rankings of these outlets but also look whether or not what they offer at a given time is comparable to what other retail outlets are offering. If outlet A has a better deal on a console than outlet B, we can assume that a greater number of people looking for the system will buy it from outlet A than from outlet B (hence explaining low ranking for PS4 and XONE on GameStop; low rankings on Amazon for XONE; and it might also lead to Switch being underrepresented on Best Buy, though that depends on how much people are willing to go to another outlet just to purchase a system that comes in a different color).
