Nintendo are not going to take a risk with production and distribution this early in the cycle and certainly not when it coincides with the best time of the year for console sales. They'll need at least another year on the market to best maximise production and distribution. It's all well and good forum user, like myself and others, talking about upping production to 'win' some arbitrary contest of fanboy fantasy, but a company prefer numbers to dice.
They can't know for certain how things will go until they have hard numbers and can analyse trends in sales. This is how you end up with consoles on shelves in some countries (dead revenue) and selling out in other countries (potential revenue lost). Give them time to evaluate, as any other company do. Next Christmas they'll know EXACTLY what to expect for the US (and other counties) and will distribute accordingly.
