Forums - Nintendo - So is Peach the first name, and Toadstool the last? Peach Toad, Princess of the Mushrooms

Nope. It's just Toadstool. If you play the original game, there's no Peach at all. Even the Mario cartoons don't refer to her as peach. It's the same with Mario's age, Bowsers name and personality, Mario's white gloves etc. Nintendo likes to change characters as the years pass.

I still refer to her as Toadstool just like I do Dr. Robotnik from Sonic and Tails name. Miles? GTFO with that lol.

I didn't even know Robotnik's name had changed until a few months ago, when I picked up Sonic Mania.  He'll always be Robotnik to me.

Yeah. Al Nilsen is the man behind that. Back when Sega of Japan was first conceiving the game and sending concept art to Set of America, then marketing guru Al Nilsen suggested (among many things) that they change the name from Eggman to Dr. Robotnik. He didn't think American kids would take to the name Eggman. He was right imo.

I believe that somewhere along the timeline Bowser did in fact successfully kidnap the redheaded Princess Toadstool. He replaced her with a blonde bimbo named Peach and Mario never noticed the difference.

Thumbs up on this!

You’re the truth speaker. I can’t believe all these people have been fooled into thinking that it once in the 5 times she was kidnaped before Mario 64 that Bowser didn’t pull the old switcheroo. Maybe each time he has captured Peach since he is gathering detailed espionage info from offices of the highest level of the Mushroom Kingdom’s government. Koopaminati?

Actually, I was thinking that Bowser has been the real power in the mushroom kingdom for years, and he just uses Peach as a figurehead.  He has to occasionally "kidnap" Peach to make it seem like he is still losing.  In reality Peach is just a magikoopa in disguise that serves Bowser.

Even when he was first introduced, his name was Miles "Tails" Prower, though. It was in the Sonic 2 manual.

Peach is her first name. Princess Toadstoll is a royalty title.

You're not wrong about how it began, but he was officially made into Charlie Nash waaaaaaaaay before SF5. Like, 10 years before, at least.

Oh, thanks for the info. That was the first time I heard of it.
So which is the earliest work you know of that mentions his name like that? Or earliest videogame, if there was one that mentioned it before SFV.

They refer to him as Charlie Nash in SF4, but they did in the comics a few years before that.

No I havent put much thought into this OP, however, even today the name Toadstool makes me chuckle....

And Super mario RPG is still one of my most favorite games ever.

It's in the opening of the game itself right before the start menu.  But fans never called him that.

I also still refer to Robotnik, but I eventually grew out of saying King Koopa and Princess Toadstool.
