They kept touting again and again that they were intending to become the leading console manufacturer at the start of this gen.
Where do you think Microsoft will focus on? | |||

Yeah they had crazy ideas for Xbone in the early days. I remember talks of them being given away or discounted by cable companies to replace set top boxes. Awesome idea on paper for consumers, so naturally the cable companies probably told MS to fuck off lol.

Microsoft doesn't do anything just to be successful, they want market dominance. If they beat both Nintendo and Sony, just think how many people would be available to add to Xbox Live. If it was truly about games, Microsoft wouldve had a fleet of great games by now, and yet the only growth theyve shown over three generations is their necessity to spread their online system.
Pcs would be my guess. When your selling $600 consoles there is really no need to try and continue that when you could adjust focus and come out with pcs that could best it in power for the same price. This has been experimented once with steam machine, but what it needs to actually take off is exclusive content, say like Halo and Forza. Now obviously I'm talking about much more than that, but huge AAA experiences, exclusives, ect. Really push and focus on the benefits of pc gaming people will come. Heck, sell one for $800-$1000 and focus on simply expanding the elitism of pc gaming, now without the need of knowledge how to build or upgrade.

That still doesn't explain why they should spend god knows how much on R&D to make Xbox X, launch it and then another gob of money on advertising. Why do that if you're just getting out of console gaming? It makes little sense. |
Try and milk it for what they can.
They have already transitioned to PCs, it's only a matter of time before they go third party.
With the Xbox One, they seem to care more about backwards compatibility than future games which says it all.

I wouldn't take this stuff seriously. J Allard in 2005 said the 360 would reach a billion users.

Wow... I haven’t heard that name in a while. Microsoft the would have no claim to 200 million Xbox one sales. They don’t put out enough content. I do remember them saying that though.
Microsoft seems to be making the Xbox more of an application that can be played on pc or consoles. That’s essentially the heart of what the Xbox as a brand is becoming. We know they will expand the online but I really hope next gen Spencer brings the games. Not challenging Sony is never a good thing. A Sony that rests on its rear isa Sony I never want to see. Luckily were still getting great new experiences. I like Phil Spencer but I will not spend a dime on another Xbox unless I see a good investment towards games. It’s the identity of their brand that I care about, not their online endeavors. That’s purely a secondary task.

But you're not milking something if you're SPENDING money. They're actually putting money INTO Xbox right now... lots of it.
