Splatoon 2 does feel like Splatoon 1.5 and the specials felt more fun in the original, but Salmon Run puts 2 ahead of 1 for me

Out of pure curiosity, how many shooters have you played?

Objectively, I'd say it's better than the first game, but I also got bored of it. I think I just got burnt out on the first game after playing it so much, and the changes didn't really draw me back in. Still fun, but doesn't have the wow factor for me anymore.

That being said, I see nothing wrong with not changing what isn't broken, and people who still enjoy the first game should definitely enjoy the second.

OP, I haven't played the original Splatoon but I'm guessing it doesn't seem as good to you because it's mostly just the same thing. You were expecting an amazing new experience but instead you got the same amazing experience just with some new stuff, so it didn't meet your expectation of being new and therefore it doesn't seem as fun to you even though it is probably as fun as the original game, but just not enough new for you.

Decent amount. Half life 1/2, all entries of Doom, Halo 5, Call of Duty Ghosts/Black Ops/Black Ops 2/Modern Warfare, Goldeneye, Splatoon, Splatoon 2, The Division, counter strike, destiny, overwatch, gears of war 4, PUBG, and Battlefield 1. Couple others, but those are the ones I didn't view as pure garbage

It's better than the first one. But I would also like a more story driven campaign with actual levels which aren't solely made of flying platforms. It gets boring really fast. I would enjoy to see more of inkopolis.
