What are my thoughts? I'm wondering why you don't post the entirety of what Panello is quoted as saying per dualshockers:

Serious question. Most modern consoles launched with ~20 titles on day one. I’m not talking back-compat – I’m talking new titles that take advantage of the new platform. This can be re-masters, games that ship on past-gen and new gen, or new-gen exclusives. Quick search: X1 had 22. PS4 had 23, Pro had 30. Going back; 360 had 18 and PS3 had 14. Playstation 1 had 10.

We had over 50 Xbox One X Enhanced titles on launch day; 67 as of today.

When I check this list – I see nothing all the way back in the neighborhood of 50.

What am I missing?

***

In every console launch I have been a part of, the number of “launch titles” has always been a metric. As you know, I was doing a number of interviews prior to launch, and at the top of many lists of questions was “how many launch titles will you have that take advantage of the new console?” In fact, many people leading up to launch were suggesting that developers would not heavily support this console. So my assumption based on the number of questions I was getting was that the launch title metric was still important.

So – I did some research and realized that we were going to have more “launch titles” than any other console.

Now – if you were to count “playable titles” that honor would go to the PlayStation 3 by a wide margin, having the HW ability to play the PS1 and PS2 games would have put it in the thousands.

If I ever said we had more total titles to play, I misspoke. I think what we said was that we had more Launch Titles, which is quantifiably true, and I think I explained what I meant by that number on GB as well.

For this point, I disagree since I watched the industry use the exact same term for the PS4 Pro launch.

Sony themselves talked about 40 launch titles. So if I say 50 launch titles, why am I spinning?

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/11/03/39-games-enhanced-for-ps4-pro-launch/

I’m really trying to understand how anything we said was spin, damage control or PR. We used the same terms.

Panello is not lying when he says "the industry [used] the exact same term for the PS4 Pro launch"

Seeing a lot of users here with arms up. I have to wonder where the uproar was when media referred to PS4 Pro "launch titles".

The media is probably not the industry he's referencing there.  If he's talking about Sony, then he is talking about the gaming console industry or perhaps the game development industry at large, neither of which are the internet media industry--which itself is so splintered that it is impossible to control.  That would be a separate issue.  What we are talking about here is marketing and advertising.  That's not the same thing at all.

Why is it so difficult for some people to face reality? They're two different statements. One is honest and the other is deliberately misleading. And then the PR goes even further and tries to imply Sony said the same thing. A dishonest company for a dishonest fanbase. Sorry, that's the reality.

This is some heavy language, Gribble.

What reality are you referring to?

The reality where Scorpio doesn’t exist (but it does). Also the reality where Penello was trying to mislead people by making people think Scorpio was launching with over 50 new games (but he literally said in the podcast these are not new games). Also the reality where he’s trying to pass the Scorpio off as a new generation (but he literally says in the podcast that this isn’t a new gen console). So reality depends on your delusion of choice.

i mean I told him what the podcast says yet he’s still talking about deliberately misleading. Yet others need to face reality LOL.

But here he’s clearly lying.

Lying about what? Please elaborate.

Sony never said anything about «launch titles»

Because that wouldn't fit his agenda.  (40 + Games enhanced available at launch) is not different then MS saying (70 Xbox one x enhanced  launch games). It's interpreting the verbiage to fit a agenda.

The difference is that this is the media, not Sony saying it?

Did anyone credit Sony with saying "it"?

Or maybe he's referring to all of the industry including media? Are they not part of the video game industry? Their output is reliant on the industry's output after all.

I fear this could be so considering Tmfwang's history.

What's more disturbing is they did it because they THOUGHT Sony said it. Microsoft, you guys are a company with a half-a-trillion dollar market cap. You don't have to look over Sony's shoulder for the answers to the quiz. I wouldn't think that pointing your fingers at the rival conglomerate and saying, "well they did it first" is the way to handle things in the adult corporate world.

Just thinking about some of the things Microsoft has said since the initial Xbox One conference until now makes my head hurt.  When Devolver Digital does it, it's parody.  But MS says things like "buy a 360" or "they did it first" un-ironically. It's social experiment levels of "trillion dollar corporation responds like pre-teen."

MS are lying again.......

"but sony did it first" is a excuse, and then it turns out they didnt,..... MS PR is just lying.

I would personally like if MS atleast tried to be honest, not project/make excuses, or make up lies about its competitors. Sadly that is not the image if I have when I think of MS PR.

What lie?

It’s just their usual deceit and marketing lies and back paddling afterwards..that even the back paddling is a lie is surely another quality though.

yes indeed, Sony never said new games but said enhanced and optimized games for PS4 PRO.

I also did read an article some where that proves also that MS is wrong again. PS3 has the biggest ever launch with BC to PS1 and PS2 games library...

I have some excellent news for you. Albert agrees with you:

"if you were to count “playable titles” that honor would go to the PlayStation 3 by a wide margin, having the HW ability to play the PS1 and PS2 games would have put it in the thousands."

MS Xbox Senior Marketing Director Albert Penello recently said this in response to people who thought that enhanced games are not «launch-titles»:

«For this point, I disagree since I watched the industry use the exact same term for the PS4 Pro launch.

Sony themselves talked about 40 launch titles. So if I say 50 launch titles, why am I spinning?

https://blog.us.playstation.com/2016/11/03/39-games-enhanced-for-ps4-pro-launch/

I’m really trying to understand how anything we said was spin, damage control or PR. We used the same terms.»

But going to the blog link that mr Penello provided, I don’t see any use of the term «launch titles» , but they rather said that 40 games were going to be enchanced at launch.

What are your thoughts towards this?
