Aren't most months on PSN+ kinda terrible on free games since the start of the gen? We can count on the fingers the good months.

They have overall gone down in quality since the pre-PS4 days, but the last few months have been pretty good. This is the worst one i can remember.

I don't keep excited for it anymore, although Far Cry, Just Cause and Metal Gear have been goood free games I got.

This says to me that PS isn't scared of XB1X at all.

Only forum people thinks it will change anything. MS is getting onslaughted and shows zero intent to resist, they are probably thinking about trying to revert it only the next gen.

Quite possible. If XB went with a weaker Pro level console, and bought up exclusivity as much as they could, it wouldn't stop the XB consoles are weak narrative, and fanboys would still be throwing a fit. XB1X has solved that problem, until the next PS console anyway, there's no arguing that now, so XB can focus on their next gen hardware and software and just let this gen play out. Showing up in 4 years with another XB1X price/performance console, with a much stronger games line up, and a super clear gaming first attitude, XB2 may actually stand a chance. They will need to try and avoid launching anything like XB1 did, and try to execute as well as PS4 did, which would mean having worthy performance, price, and games.

PS1   - ! - We must build a console that can alert our enemies.

PS2  - @- We must build a console that offers online living room gaming.

PS3   - #- We must build a console that’s powerful, social, costs and does everything.

PS4   - $- We must build a console that’s affordable, charges for services, and pumps out exclusives.

PRO  -%-We must build a console that's VR ready, checkerboard upscales, and sells but a fraction of the money printer.

PS5   - ^ -We must build a console that’s a generational cross product, with RT lighting, and price hiking.

PRO  -&- We must build a console that Super Res upscales and continues the cost increases.

Consoles are a terrible market. Because if you screw up, you have to run with it for 4 to 7 years. Just look at how long Nintendo had to endure the Wii U and they had an easy escape route that was using the 3DS upgrade cycle to launch a handheld that was also a home console.

If you ruin 2 times in a row, you're dead. Sega died by simply ruining 2 Genesis add-ons and the Saturn.

All other electronic markets are way more forgiving. Look at phones, Samsung ruined the Note 7 and 6 months later they already had the S8 out and made amends with their consumers.

Sony was never scared of MS period once they gain such a large market share.  X1X never had or was it intended to change the narative of this gen.

After the 2016 E3 announcement of Scorpio, PS seemed at the very least, a little bit shaken up. It wasn't until after they released Pro, that it seemed like they slowly started getting back to their confident PS4 swagger again. Just a case of cold feet I think. Nothing out of the ordinary. Now that Nov seems fairly open for XB1X, it looks like PS is over it and is focused on the future, and mostly it's games.

XB1X was never meant to change the current market share all that much, that's pretty clear based on it's price. What XB1X is intended to do, which is based on it's specs, is to put to rest this 'PS consoles are strong and XB consoles are weak' narrative that has been going on for this gens 4 year period now, that has had the XB fanboys and spec heads in an absolute meltdown.

Totally agree with this.  This is MS way to try and reboot the image of tthe Xbox brand at least for hardware and it seems from the reviews they have a solid product .  Now if they are able to match in the games department, then we would see more of a competitive gen but I do not expect to see it this gen.

It’s too late now - people don’t care about power at this stage. They just want games and that’s where the narrative that the X1 has no exclusives is now a common thing.

Noticed I said not this gen.  People always care about power but right now its not a deciding point anymore.  You have to build back up your brand at some point and coming out with hits instead of misses help along tht route.  If anything MS is looking to claw back some of their fans back to the system.  As for exclusive, I remember the PS3 had this moniker for awhile until Sony changed that story.  Nothing is set in stone in this business.

This says to me that PS isn't scared of XB1X at all. Weak PS Plus line up for Nov in comparison to the last couple months, no mention of hardware price drops (other than BF), another steady showing of quality (exclusive) games at PGW. Looks like PS just may allow XB1X to have the spotlight for this month anyway, depending on how BF goes.

PS not being scared of X1X is bad news for PS owners: PS don't have to try so hard to please their customers now.

Appearances can be deceiving.

What moniker did the PS3 have? You mean lack of exclusives?

Well PS just announced a white Pro model launching soon, so they still are paying attention and making sure they keep their foot down on XB.

XB is making sure the performance narrative goes away now, and doesn't come back. Now all they have to do is fix their games problem. New and more first party exclusives are necessary to some degree, and third party exclusivity to XB2, or no exclusivity to any console, is what XB2 needs to accomplish. XB is stopping the leak, and refilling the tank now. Redesigning their ecosystem, especially in terms of games, should happen when XB2 launches. Should happen, but it might not. If XB wants to compete, they will need to though.
