Forums - Nintendo - Kimishima on Switch stock, sales, and tease; Capcom and Koei Tecmo on support

Rumor has it that Nintendo suggested a Bomberman game to Konami, otherwise they probably wouldn't even touch that IP.

That makes it even worst, in a way. Capcom has been rumoured to follow and actively input their opinions during the Switch's developement, and all they've got to show for it are a couple of old ports. Nintendo suggests Konami to make a new game from a forgotten series, and they just do it. No excuses, no "trying periods", no bullshit. It's sad we're comparing Capcom unfavourably to Konami, of all companies.

True. I was actually quite surprised that Konami made a launch title for the Switch, and a quite fitting one, even. Konami! Now they seem to be interested in reviving more dead franchises, so Nintendo likely has hit some sweet spots.

I still haven't given up on Capcom, though. I know they make extraordinary dumb moves but I still believe they're going to make some exclusive games for the Switch.

Koei punched Capcom in the ass.

Anyway, all good news. I'm excited to see the games Kimishima is talking about, so I hope they announce some new ones in a January Direct or something.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Right now, I think Capcom is in a pretty confusing spot. Two of their biggest franchises released with lackluster numbers (SFV and specially MvC Inf), they can't milk RE with as much speed as they would want to (making a RE7 caliber game is long and takes resources), and the console that housed their main cash cow is being quickly replaced, so even the Monster Hunter series is in uncertain grounds. They could've gone all out on the Switch the way Bethesda or even Konami did. Bring an old classic people were still excited for (bring that Monster Hunter Switch to everyone, and RE7 can fit on the Switch the same way Doom fits on the Switch, or even just RE4 again) or make a low budget, low risk revival of an old franchise (Darkstalkers or even MEGAMAN?!). Why they didn't do this when it seems like the safest thing to do is beyond me, and I'm pretty confident there are things we don't know going on behind the curtains.

Capcom is so mismanaged. Christ..

Yeah I'm not buying shit from Capcom until they stop treating Nintendo fans like shit. They already did us dirty when they sold out to Sony for monster hunter now they flat out said they only want to port old games

Great news on Switch stock. And lol Capcom and Koei Techmo's statements against one another.

Everything you say is true. Capcom definitely needs to discover new flows of cash, it seems. If I really wanted to give them a small benefit of the doubt I could say that it's uncertain when exactly Nintendo invited them in on the Switch's construction, so they may indeed not have had all that time in the world to make new games. And as you've said yourself: big games need time and resources, and I'm guessing they are already working on more big games for PS and Xbox, so their mapower is somewhere else. That's why they need that long to make a warmed-up Street Fighter, an upscaled MH and a collection consisting of two games.

I really hope a Megaman game will come. A good one. I soooooo hope for that! Now this is really mindblowing why they don't make one when so many Switch games hit so hard on nostalgia these days! Capcom, wake up, ffs!

After playing and enjoying Project X Zone 2 recently I got interested in Darkstalkers a lot, actually, since some characters appear there. I would probably buy a copy.

I would also wish for a new Phoenix Wright game, but that's depended on the creator/writer (his name is Shu Takumi, I think). He needs to be in the mood to write a new one, otherwise it will be shoehorned. I also believe that a game like Dead Rising would work well on the Switch.

They were in the very early stages of Switch development. From stories, it seems teh amount of Ram being what it is, is due to Capcom's incistence on it being more than it was.

Yeah I heard that too. I just don't know how early this is. It would be somehow contradicting if Capcom had been there from the begining but wouldn't have a proper game themselves for a launch window release. I mean, they would have quite a headstart then (let's just assume for a minute that Ultra Street Fighter II doesn't count because it was made by a handful of people in a handful of months time). That's somehow ironic, isn't it? It's not unlikely, though. But it's not satisfying.

One of the weirder things about all of this is Capcom's choices of old ports:

-They developed a more expensive MH game for PS4, XBOne and PC, and ignored the Switch version already done, and no word on releasing the new game on handhelds, where it hstorically sells better.

-They brought Ultra Street Fighter II months before it was leaked that they are planning an "Anniversary SF Collection" including SFII for PS4, XBOne and PC, and not the Switch.

-They brought Revelations 1 and 2 when they coul've just ported RE7 like Bethesda did with Doom (to be fair, I have no idea if its engine is Switch compatible).

-They were very successful with Megaman Anniversary Collection on the 3DS, but they won't bring the rest of the Anniversary Collection for the Switch (they are old games, why they haven't done this is baffling).

-They are bringing Okami HD to the PS4 and XBOne but not the Switch, when they can copypaste the game on the console and use the Wii's motion controlls setup to some degree on the Switch.

-They won't bring either MvsC Inf or UMvsCIII to the Switch, when they could have sold very good. Fighting games are selling well right now, we have a plethora of them on the console.

I have no idea what are they thinking. The only options that could make sense of this (other than mismanagement) is if they a) either were trying to push Nintendo into making deals with them, hoping that the console would have 3rd party droughts, or b) they are trying to appease Sony to keep Nintendo from dominating the japanese market with the only current handheld around. These two are very conspiracy-level theories, but I can't really think of other options. If they had made a mistake and they were planning to bring games to the console, wouldn't have they announced them a while ago to appease the userbase, and stopped with the "trial runs"?
